Benchmarks for Perking?
« on: May 12, 2007, 07:35:48 PM »
I have always wondered what are the "Benchmarks" for perking certain vehicles/boats/aircraft. In other words, for what reason is the vehicle/boat/aircraft cost system there?
Is the vehicle/boat/aircraft cost system there because of actual factors in World War II that restricted the use of certain things like the number of a certain fighter produced?
Or is the perk system there out of concern that too many people will be driving or flying something that HTC fears has better armament or 'killing ability' than other vehicles and aircraft? (Putting costs on certain things because of something not based on historical fact (Like amount of production) but out of such concern for 'abusing' certain things is a bit too arcade-ish in my honest opinion.)

Was perked because it was overused and deadly in the MA

i dont think there is any fair mathematical way to adjust perk values. its just something that slowly evolved over the years in the MA to balance gameplay somewhat...

F4U-1C as stated was perked because at one time it was insanely over-used and was unbalancing the arenas (WELL before my time). Also, only 200 were built.

Ta-152 is perked because it was extremely rare.

Me-163s and Me-262s are perked because they are ghey. They're ghey even WITH the perk.

F4U-4 is perked because she's the best prop fighter in the game, and guaranteed if she wasn't it'd sure shut up the "Perk the ElGay!" whines.

Tiger is perked because it's the best tank in the game.

La-7 is not perked because she's quite frankly NOT the game-breaker people make her out to be. Personally, I love shooting a guy down, watching him up an La-7 while I'm egressing thinking he'll run me down and take revenge, then I shoot him down again. :D However whenever HTC implements the perked ord option, the third cannon should be perked for the same reason as the Ta-152/F4U-1C. There just weren't that many built.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Still living in the past the Sherman is better then the Tiger. Sure its armor is crap but does it matter if you can kill tigers from 2K+ with one hit?

I would guess the Firefly is headed for a light perk.

Tiger is still better than the Firefly because the other rides can't kill it very easily, whereas the Firefly is not nearly as difficult a kill.

I disagree.

I believe it was perked due to the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Wasn't it only perked five points anyways?

But not by all that much, with the advantage rapidly decreasing as altitude increases, and is otherwise dominated by the F4U-4 in most other categories.
