Anyone willing to do 1v1 training?
« on: May 12, 2007, 07:37:30 PM »
Recently the Training Corps (Bless their busy souls) decided that they no longer had the staffing to schedule 1v1 training sessions. Instead, they're asking players to attend the open training sessions or the scheduled skill clinics now being listed on their calendar. It's an understandable decision, since the subscriber base just keeps growing, but when combined with the (also understandable) killshooter on DA it means finding 1v1 skill training is going to be harder than ever.

We have a great community. I know there are many without the official trainers' title who volunteer time in the TA. There are also many who are generous with tips and have a knack for explaining things, without ever expecting recognition. I expect some of these folks would be willing to step up and unofficially fill this gap.

So if you're in a squad that has new players, try to be a bit more proactive in offering training -- don't wait to be asked. And if you're willing and able, look for chances to adopt and mentor intermediate players, who have moved past the newbie stage but haven't gotten the chance we had to get one on one training time.

AND if you are interested in either taking on an apprentice for long term training, or in offering some "spot" teaching oriented duels, then let folks know....maybe by posting here.

I've been considering trying to help some people out, but I'm not sure I have the time or patience. I'd probably be willing to show someone who's gotten to the point of being "good" a few things. By that I mean someone who's better than most in the arenas, but needs some help with reversals/overshoots/fighting from a disadvantage. I'm not going to teach anyone how to E fight or scissor. If you can't figure that out, you suck.

I'm not sure I have anything to teach someone who doesn't know at least how to work a rolling scissor, and I definitely don't have the patience for that. I guess if anyone's interested, PM me on here. No squeekers.

I'm surprised you'll get anyone to train with you with that kind of attitude.

If we can't figure out how to E fight we suck?
Yeah..great analysis. Way to be understanding of people that don't know everything like you apparently do.

He's not being egotistical, he's laying out what skill level he is willing to start training at.

A high school teacher wouldn't be as suited for teaching 3rd grade as an elementary school teacher would be.  It takes different kinds of people.

I beg to differ in a way. Telling what his "application requirements" are is one thing. Of course he can go and train/ help people which have mastered a certain level. That's fine and this community can surely need any helping hand.

On the other hand: "If you can't figure that out, you suck." is a quite arrogant attitude.

Applaud your well-intentioned call for mentoring, Simaril. If anyone wants to find the limits of their knowledge in a hurry, start mentoring someone who asks a lot of simple questions... ;)

1 vs 1 training is not going away, though. It's simply more efficient to train 8 people on basic and repetitive topics for two hours instead of 16 hours doing it one person at a time as it was done in the past. Bringing more people up the shallow learning curve of Aces High faster helps the veterans to have better fights in the Main Arenas. Dueling 1 v 1 in similar planes, at similar E and weight is a small slice of Aces High. Sure, it's fun and the trainers enjoy it also, but the Main Arenas are still the bread and butter for most people.

There will always be an avenue for advanced and individual aircraft training, plus 1 v 1 training. Just ask a trainer in the Training Arena.

Cheers,

Some of you guys really need to do a better job at detecting things that are said in jest. i.e. humor. If you can't handle someone bustin your balls, I'm the wrong person to be spending any amount of time with :aok Makes no difference to me if noone takes me up on my offer. I'm willing to help make a decent stick a good stick for the sake of promoting competence (something this game sorely lacks lately), but have no burning desire to do so.

No, you need to do a better job portraying your words in jest if that's how you mean it to come out.
Should have a put a smiley face in your original post or something to show you weren't being serious.

A high school teacher wouldn't tell her students that they suck if they can't solve calculus equations either.

Well, you really need to do a better job at writing down things meant in jest in a truly humorous way...

I don't see why you're all so sensitive :huh In all seriousness, if you don't know how to E fight or scissor, you DO suck, and likely require help fixing that. If that's offensive, fine, so be it... no need to make a big deal of it. If someone wants help from me, great, I'll give it a shot. I'm not going to beg or apologize. Life is too short for this; my offer stands, but I'm done with this hijack.
