This can happen only to me
« on: May 15, 2007, 04:21:47 AM »
Yesterday as usually i decided to fly 262 and go dweeb around the map.
So i set it to auto take off from a field, and went to get my self a drink. My 262 crashed in a hill right in front of runway.I was stupid enough not to look where i was taking off.
So i take off again, get some alt and start killing bombers.I was doing just fine until i decided to go against some low bombers.I dove and not watching the speedometer i just pulled 5-6 Gs and lost my both wings at high speed.I just slammed the ground.
I was getting nervous, i am starting to loose all my perks!I had only about 600 or so.2 jets lost in 10 minutes.
I up again and after only 3 minutes of flying i get the BSOD( blue screen of death) saying that windows has to shut down.I went nuts!

Bad luck?

Have to start cleaning rust off my Spit1 and go perk farming again:(

Croduh!  <>

I have done the same thing.

I enjoy using the 262 to hunt buffs and my early attempts fell to "oddities".

We'll have to go perk farming together.

When flying 262 nothing beats the excitement of having to find a friendly airfield when the "Beacon of soon to come disco" starts to blink :D

never ever buy a 262 from the dealer, wait and find a good one at a gargae sale, (I use the "under 150$ rule) you'll be a much more aggressive 262 pileit, without worring about your banker.

I upped a 262 last week for the first time in probably 6-8 months.

I flew out and got into a bit of a turn fight with a Zeke :)  I finally got him but we clipped wings as I went by (him going down), taking off half of one of my wings.  I turned for home using hard rudder to compensate which was slowing me down just enough to keep an F4U who had also been near the fight hot on my tail.

I managed to get home and bring the thing down on all 3 wheels but not on the runway.  No problem, I was rolling toward the hanger pad.  I was going to be safe.  Just then I rolled past a ground ack bunker which took off my other wing, spinning me and breaking my gear.  At least i got the ditch.

I agree, eveytime I jump in a perk plane the AH gods smite me.  The reward is rarely worth the price.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

IMO you're paying cash up front for perk rides. Once you pay it's done for, you're paying for the priveledge of flying that plane. If you make it back, it's an added bonus that you get your perks back.

Like gambling, you have to be ready to lose it the moment you place the bet.

It's not just you, Cro! I've done some boneheaded stuff myself. I came in high over a horde steamrolling a friendly base. There's a set of B24s ready to finish off the town and 50+ enemy all over the place. So I come down to get the 24s (help slow down the base capture) annnnnnnnnd

I promptly compress. I trim out juuuuuuust enough to plow in at 10 degrees of nose-down angle, just below the B24s, giving them a proxy. Not only did I not scare them, they hit the town, and we lost the field.

Another time I was trying to make a slashing attack from the side on a formation of B26s, and despite actually hitting one of them, I rammed one of the drones, damaging myself, with crap-loads of ammo and fuel left I was forced to RTB (I made it though!).

Another time I was coming down slightly fast on a set of lancs (wasn't too much higher) and was diving well ahead of them to pull up and do a high-speed HO, only I snapped both my wing off - both straight to the wingroot (still angry at the flight modeling on the wings! Shouldn't ever happen!)

Then, there's times when I roll, get kills, take damage, land safely, reup immediately, get more kills, and land 13 cumulative in a row.

Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.

I love it.  I hate 262's and any story of a 262 pileit suffering warms my heart.

I simply do not see the thrill of flying a 262. I often consider augering when I get 1v1 vs. a 262.  It's the same old thing.  Endless BnZ passes until they run  out of fuel/ammo/get bored... or get lucky.  Two weekends ago, I got zoomed by 26 passes frmo a 262 before another countryman wandered by and the 262 switched targets.  What a waste of time.

Folks trying to dogfight in a 262 are like folks that try to dogfight in B17s. They're not using it to its strengths or to its design, but hey it's a game so they can use it how they like.

Try flying it as a bomber hunter. It's quite vulnerable, and any hit anywhere will kill an engine, your pilot, and 2 of your guns (one from each bank)!

Magic bullet theory, anybody? :noid

Upped a 262 last week, got to 22k, saw some buffs 4k below, dove in on them and collided, back to around 200 points now, will probably take me another 6 months to try and collect enough lol
Think I'll just leave the 262 to those who actually know what they are doing in them:aok

Ramming will be a problem until you're used to them. The closure rates are much faster, and you can't pull up very hard at the last second or you lose your wings!

Just takes practice. Fly planse with an ENY of 20 or greater and you'll have enough perks for a 262 inside a week.

I dogfight in mine all the time.  Rope a zeke, outturn a pony, lag roll a 109, many cases where you can use the plane ot it's advantages in a dogfight!!:aok

When I up a 262 I figure I have about a 25% chance of landing it. Last time I upped on I got HO'ed by a LA.

I've also broken the wings off one before, think it's about 800 mph it will break them off.  I figure if I decided to up a perk ride then I figure I plan on losing the points.

I just don't do very good at staying out of trouble, I always find myself in the middle of 50 red guys.
