There's no lock on the arena door. Anyone can come in there and be as dweeby as they are anywhere else.
It's all a matter of degree. There is less dweebery, generally speaking, than in other arenas. Some will come in have a bad experience and conclude it's all the same. If you come in on a regular basis you notice that there is a difference. When the "regulars" are on vulchers will be derided from all sides even their own, fewer will just jump in an ongoing fight, and good pilots are more interested in separation and lead turns than jousting.
Standards is the wrong word, maybe culture would be better. It's just an arena, not a magic place that emits anti luzer rays through your monitor.
