Offline Aerial Drones
« on: May 20, 2007, 06:57:58 PM »
Hi,

This concerns off-line practice to my PC:

Is it possible for me to reprogram the setup so the drones flying circles over a base, can instead change direction?

Also, is it possible, like my "WarBirdsIII Fighter Pilot Academy" CD, to reprogram the drones to fire back and or attack me as AI ?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Daubie

I think HT should keep doing what it's doing and spend it's time working on the Online Improvements.

How hard is it to get One or Two people to go into a H2H room with you and fly "your way"

No, offline is fine as it is.

I agree. I did not like the idiotic accuracy of WB's "otto". Nor did I like the AI (cheating buggers!).

However, ROC, I would suggest only one change: Allow bombers to fly in straight lines in a box-shaped circuit over greater distances.

I would like that only to practice WGr 21 attacks and gunnery. Hard to hit a bomber in a 30-degree bank and always turning.

Shouldn't you practice with humans instead of predictable AI? If you do you'll get sapnked by guys that practice with real folks.

Hee hee.

I flew - no lie - something in the close neighborhood of a thousand hours in the Warbirds 2.x offline mode before I ever ventured online.   In fact, talk about being completely bassackwards - I joined a squadron (The EZTargets) and THEN signed up for an account online.  I had just assumed that online play would be chock full of 11 yearold wanna-be-Rambo's .....

(of course, it wasn't.  In 1996 there maybe a handful of guys under 20 (2.00/hour tended to move the median age up!!!)

Couldn't understand why the guys were so excited when I got a kill my first flight with them online.

In fact, I still fire up 2.77 offline mode once in a while and go whack some cheating AI just for the sake of nostalgia.

Is 2.7 the "smooth" looking version? The latest? What was the major version before that, was it 2.3? I can't remember the version numbers too well. I wouldn't mind installing 2.3 and checking a few things out once in a while, but I dislike the latest version.

What's wrong with the TA or actually on-the-job training in the War Arenas flying with missions or on someone's wing?  We trying to protect our scores above all else?  With milkrunners and shades, scores are kinda meaningless.

Rarely have I ever used off-line except to test bullet drop, convergence, and the like, usually after an update that may have effected it.   Learned flight in the TA, and ACM has been an ongoing effort in MA/LW.  Bombing I practiced on strats in MA/LW till I got it down.

Can't see the purpose of adding an AI to the existing game.  Maybe if there were to be a AHIII, that only supported broadband, and you were adding a lot of targets of opportunity about, or high, mid, and low CAP to defend carriers.....

But add AI to AHII?  Don't see the need for that kind of investment.

2.77 was the latest version of the "Hitech" version of WarBirds - although at the  point they had been gone for years.  Development of it was discontinued around 10 years ago in favor of WarBirds III (the current 3D only version)

I don't know whether you mean 2.7 or III as the "smooth" version.  Before 2.7 was 2.66 (I think...), and before that 2.6 and 2.5.

Agree.

But here's a thought: In two weeks, when CT goes active, the AH world will include AI enemies with scalable difficulty. It's a short leap to imagine having offline drones to practice against, especially since fighting in the online CT world puts your "character" at risk.

To prepare for gameplay in MA, the drones should have a variety of PMs they'll send you after you shot them down.

"Lucky hit, n00b"
"Learn to fly a real plane"
"XXXX you XXX and XXX your XXX"
"Is that all you can do, shooting drones?"
"DA, you tard?"

ect
