i think you should have to switch from external fuel tanks to internal fuel when dropping your drop tanks. it would make the game more realistic.

Not everything more realistic adds to game play.  It is a game.  A cartoon combat flight simulator.

You can manually control fuel management in your plane in the game now, instead of using the auto select option.  You don't have to use combat trim if you want to manage that on your own too. Stall limiter is also your choice.

Adding additional minor cockpit management details to what is a combat flight game which puts emphasis on the combat does not do much for the combat or flight side of the game.
They could add preflight checklists, taxi from revetments to the runway to take off, mechanical failures, birdstrikes, fuel mixture management, they could ASSIGN you to a particular plane to fly (not of your choice), and only 1 life per tour per account to all make it more realistic too.

More realistic is not often a good enough reason on its own.  Gameplay. Balance.  Content.  Eye Candy.  An idea has to hit one of these points more often than not.

Aww c'mon tedrbr, I think for this gentleman only all planes should only allow for manual fuel management.

Have fun switching between tanks to maintain balance in a dog fight.

I hope I'm the one who meets you when you're trying to figure out why your wing won't drop into a bank.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

This is already available in game.  If you manually choose drop tanks with Shift F instead of letting the game automatically manage your fuel.  When you drop the tanks, if you hav'nt switched to another fuel tank, the engine dies.

There's your realism for you.
