Dune II define the genre. Starcraft just push it as it's best.

Command & Conquer the original was easily the best.

Recon bikes, flame tanks, obelisks, orcas... GDI Vs. NOD... awesome.

No sir... Herzog Zwei for the Sega Genesis.

After that... Dune: The Battle for Arrakis, again Sega Genesis, IIRC.

...all well before Command and Conquer... which later beget Red Alert.

Later... Blizzard got involved with Starcraft and Warcraft.
