MY TURN....

I'm new here and my marksmanship sucks in here.  I fired expert with a M16 on a 100 yard range in real life on a windy day in the rain, and do squat in here.

In MA I ask you guys to hold still a minute, but, noooooo, be difficult.

My drone buddies even fly with no wings.  I got to get in at 200 yards and aim for wing roots.  I fly so bad just coming up on and keeping with a drone is a big deal for me, then where'd you go?  I lose sight of my target.  All you guys responding are pros at this, I'm not.  What do you guys do for target practice?

OK, YOUR TURN AGAIN...

Isn't it?????

Daubie, offline practice is good for improving aim... start with tracers on and maybe computed lead sight on (go to Options -> Arena setup -> Environments -> Arena settings, select the voice "FlightModelFlags" and check the "lead computed sight" box, hit OK, then Save.. to use it in flight, select a plane with the TAB key), start with rear aspects, then try different angles (from above, from below, from beam, in front quarter, head on).. try to develop an eye for the right lead... I think that turning tracers off will help you, since a certain point, 'cause you'll focus on the target-gunsight relationship, not on tracers. Even using the .target command (.target , it will spawn a bullseye in N direction, at the given distance, .target 0 to turn it off) will help you in understanding the ballistic of the different guns, to see what the bullets dispertion is, to adjust your convergence (keep it as low as you can, and fire only when you're really near! I started with convergence at 350/300 yards, now I set it at 200 for cannons and 150 for MGs).

Then go online, in TA or in 8 player, where you can find more "cooperative" targets and fire, fire, fire! It's just a matter of how long you play, we're all here from years and we're still learning... :)

Hope you'll find the above useful, sorry, wrote it in a rush.

Oh, btw, another thing: read, read a lot! Go to http://www.netaces.org and http://www.simhq.com you'll find very useful articles... I suggest you to begin with this ones:

A2A gunnery - part I

A2A gunnery - part II

A2A gunnery - part III

A2A gunnery - revisited

They are sims-indipendent, then go on with the stuff at Netaces.

Good luck! :aok

Shoot at between 100-200 yards. The targets become BIG and EASY to hit. Just point and click.
See me if you need help getting in to 100-200 yards.

Note: 100 shots require an offset passing shot so you don't run into the debrise and put holes in your plane. :)

Hope this helps.

Just to correct some (probably unimportant) information I posted earlier:

The "current" version of WB's 2.x  - at least that I am aware of - was 2.77r3 (from approximately mid 2001).  Prior to that in my archive, I have 2.77 to 2.72, although I may have earlier version elsewhere.

IIRC, the latest version that worked properly head to head (2 player offline) was 2.76 - there was a bug in 2.77 versions where the first person to ping the other was immune to further damage (IIRC - it was a loooong  time ago.
