Korea are more of a military threat.  Were we there for humanitarian reasons?  Maybe partly, but there's plenty of other countries with humanitarian crisis going on...  At the time, we were sold on the idea of WMD's.  Did we find any?

Tell me, if not over oil, why the hell are we even bothering?

But they're not out of your control.  You can vote, you have a voice, you can write, so you DO have just as much control over (for example) immigration laws (and more importantly immigration law enforcement) as you do over how long we leave our military in Iraq.

Seat belt enforcement alone would save a few thousand lives a year in the US.  Yea you can say that dying because you didn't wear a seatbelt is just evolution in action, but there are children who are essentially killed by their parents because their parents refused to properly secure their kids before driving.  Britney Spears got off without even a ticket for driving around with her kid in her lap, and there are thousands of people who do that every year and many of them crash, killing their child when they squish the kid between their chest and the steering wheel.

How about even a *little* effort towards stopping that sensless child abuse and those negligent deaths?

Don't get me started about DUI...  Why is driving considered a RIGHT, to the point where people who have demonstrated a willingness to endanger everyone by driving drunk are allowed to continue to drive?  Do you have any idea how many DUI fatalities are caused by repeat offenders?  Why did we allow these people to drive ever again?  A hint - the annual death toll from DUIs alone has been more than the annual toll from the Iraq war, and it's been that way for decades even though there is a trivial way to stop it without relying on jail time - simply ban convicted drunk drivers from driving.  That would do it almost overnight, and the number of road fatalities would plummet.

But oh no, it's much more fun to get all excited about the war.  Yea it sucks to be one of the casualties but I'm far more worried about getting killed driving to work than I am about getting blowed up in Iraq.  I've been literally run off the road twice in the last 2 weeks on the way to or from work, by drunk texan rednecks in big pickemup trucks.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

my point was that we can't control the actions of criminals, but we're supposed to be able to control our gov't.

I hear ya, Eagl.  There ARE plenty of issues here at home that are as, if not more, important.  Maybe I did jump the gun by bringing Iraq into this thread.  But since I did, let me put it this way...  You're active duty, in harms way...  I don't see any threat in Iraq that's worth sacrificing your life for.  Show me a threat to our national sovereignty and I'd gladly sign up (again) and stand beside you in defense of our country and way of life.  I just don't see a threat (in Iraq) that comes close to justifying the American lives lost over there.

Who is going to save 2007. This year is a bad one. Do you know anyone?

It cannot (and is not) anyone running for public office or anyone in public office, they have already lost. All,….all all all all all all politicians are cheaters and lyres and not one on the face of this earth will lift a finger to help the world.

P.S.  Please leave religion out of this.

So what is his\her name.

that leaves celebrities (idiots IMO) and people poppin out of the woodwork. and neither are going to happen, tho tom cruise may try.

Toad,

The funny thing is, they're so equally bent up that all the old power settings and techniques still work.  Want 200 knots?  Set rpm to 82% plus half your altitude.  That sort of thing.

I flew one jet that had about 2 ft of wing leading edge that was simply flat.  No curve at all to the leading edge of the airfoil, as if a truck had run into it or as if the wing had run into the corner of a building.  Which probably happened sometime in the last 30 years.  It flew just like any other tweet on the line.  Of course, it had a fresh coat of paint on it, and I remembered that same dent from my last tour here nearly 4 years ago.

Somehow I doubt the T-6 will be as forgiving, although the ejection seat and cockpit pressurization will sure make it a nicer place to spend a few hundred hours in over the next few years.

I expect to transition to the T-6 sometime in 2008.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

I cant believe people think they have a right to tell me to wear a seatbelt "for my own good" or.. to save my life.   Or even.. that they think it will save them money.

It is better if I live out long enough to get cancer or organ transplants?

I guess you are all thinking of that huge rebate on your car insurance that you all got when the seatbelt laws went into force?

Think of all the lives we could save if we cut out private aviation or...  hiking or..  bungee jumping or fatty foods or soda...   Not to mention the big one... booze.

It would be nice if parents buckled up their kids but ya know what?  Kids die or are injured  every day from some kind of parental neglect... and a few decades back.. no one wore a seatbelt.   Some of us survived.   How much right does society have over the raising of kids..   I know what billary thinks and I know what most socialists think but what do you parents think?

life is about risk.  when you tell people that they can live without being injured or killed if they just take enough precautions... just give up enough freedom... you raise a bunch of weak wussies...

like we have now say..

Ever see the engine out of the airframe on that bird? It looks like a kettle drum on steroids. The main compressor is hell for stout on it too, one of the last, if not the last, production centrifugal compressors out there. There are a bunch of tweets in storage at DMAFB.

Hap do you really have something to say or are you just making "noise" again? Talk about being "shrill".

Did your sophmore year in college go well?

I don't know squat about you; sorry for not paying better attention.

Any favorite classes, things you've been reading?

Hope all Goes Well,

Yep you're shrill as ever. No real content to your posts, just some off the cuff sarcasm and fade behind your keyboard.

As long as you're getting self-rightous and all indignant about fatalities, let's try a little actual logic.  Since we invaded Iraq, there have been just under 4,000 combat casualties and around 10 times that many wounded in Iraq.  The conflict has been so successful in attracting all the violent religious nutters in the world that there hasn't been another successful follow-up attack in the US, in spite of all the people that always hated the US loudly claiming how much MORE they hate us now.

Yet car accidents in the US claimed that many in just the first few months of 2007.

Do you begin to understand why I think maybe you are focusing on the wrong problems, and wasting your emotional involvement on a situation that, compared to both historical conflicts and problems occurring right in your own backyard, just doesn't deserve the level of attention you're giving it?

Holy hell man, illegal immigrants and smugglers (both people and drug smugglers) murder more people every year than we have lost in combat each year.  Where's your protest over that problem which has been going on for the last several DECADES?

Get a grip man.  And read some history before you repeat nonsense about how terrible the Iraq war is.  It's a f**king walk in the park compared to other equally important conflicts in world history.  Grab a history book and learn to filter the BS you see/hear on TV every day.  The worst part of the current Iraq war is how it's being used by politicians on both sides of the aisle to twist an unpleasant reality into re-election votes.

This is a valid analysis if and only if you assume Americans are Humans and Iraqis are not.

Eaglr,

I think I better understand both your post's content and the force wherewith you animate it.

Around 1986, when I learned that roughly 35,000 die a year on our highways, that became a "mark in the sand" as it were to measure things.

Of course, in many cases it's not useful, but in some it is.

Problems at home abound don't they?  Short of shooting drug dealers, drug users, pirates, and illegal immigrants on the spot which I'm against, I don't see a way out.

Human nature is too marred to respond to much less than the greatest fear or the greatest love.  And that type of love does not originate in humans.

We are a mess.
