Glaucoma?
« on: May 30, 2007, 10:29:53 PM »
My routine eye exam today turned interesting when I got my first dilation and the optometrist said, "I've never seen optic nerves like that."

Before this, the optometrists have always been impressed with my general eye health and overall health.  Some astigmatism, but no significant problems.

He scheduled me for a more detailed gadget that he gets on a rotational basis with other optometrists.  Next available turn on that is August.

I don't think so.  Sounds like time to see an opthamologist and start the endless Google research on optic nerves and glaucoma.

So got an opthamologist appointment in a couple weeks.  Sort of a second opinion in advance.  Might eventually just switch to him totally.

The optometrist said there is some optic nerve deterioration.  No kidding, as we age, everything starts to deteriorate.  Said will just establish a better base of present status so if things start to change can consider what needs to be done in future.

Can't restore lost nerves, but apparently can do some stuff with medication although much of that has side effects.

Does this ring a bell with any of you?  Do any of you have glaucoma or are any of you on a higher degree of vision alert like this?  Any advice?

Do not play around with your eyes, get them checked now.  I started going blind when I was two years old due to cataracts in both my eyes.  Without glasses or contact lens my vision is 20/800.  My biggest problem today is that I get Iritis often and need to get Atropine injections into my eyes.  I can not get lens implants because of the meds I have to use to keep the Iritis at bay.  My mom and sister are in worse shape then me because I'm younger and the surgeons had developed better techniques by the time I had my surgeries done.

Do NOT play around.  The longer you wait, the more damage to your eyes will occur.

Wouldn't have expected a hijacking so early.  Never considered glaucoma  a hallucinatory diversion.  Have fun, but sometime you might want to get the full pupil dilated eye check.

What he said X 5!!!

You have 2 eyes and they are not indelicate. Nerve damage is permanent and it only takes damage to 2 nerves to make you totally blind. Get into an Opthamologists office asap and get it checked. If the eyes are carrying too much pressure the damage is not waiting to happen it is on going and is cumulative.

Ignore the idiots hijacking the thread, get to the doctor asap. Your vision is too critical to your quality of life to screw around with.

Did'nt mean to start a hijack, Halo. Marijuana is suppossed to be very effective treatment for glaucoma. Definitely go to the opthamologist and get it checked out. Skip the optomitrist when something serious is involved.
