There is a reason behind the big box pc companys (Dell ,hp, ect)  offering XP on all there new pc builds as optional ... [Think box]

Also Vista doesnt let DirectX shove the OS outta the way like it does in the previous versons of windows . thats one of the main reason it hates gaming.

Just a few things to ponder for your gamer .

Hey Thanks Kurt.  I think I'm going to definitely go the XP route.

I found some unopened XP Home Full versions on eBay for under $90.  I can do that and then get the upgrade later on for Vista if I need to.

Thanks again.

I may check out vista after Sp 1. Till then it's an experiment for guinea pigs. I have seen everything from running fine to BSODs. I have read about all types of problems also.

Granted most folks are their own worst enemy, but most of my friends are geeks about computers... when they have issues you know they are serious. Xp Pro has worked great for me for years and I plan staying with it, I have no machines that I consider not mission critical or to play guinea pig on so I'll wait.

Good luck on your test :aok

right now my box is set up as a quad boot {2000,XP,Vista,Linux(Ubuntu)}. 2000 is still the best option for business app's IMO. I dont like Vista much but there is very little impact on AH...in fact it seems to run a bit smoother on Vista then it does on XP. Not recommending Vista, but overall its lightyears ahaed of where XP was initially.......

GIGABYTE Mobo NVidia 650i
700W COOLMASTER Power Supply
Intel e6600 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo CPU (Conroe)
eVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
G.Skill 2GB of DDR2 800 RAM
Seagate 320GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
Thermalright inc. Heatsink + 120mm Fan (TO REPLACE STOCK CPU HEATSINK/FAN)

Again I haven't decided an operating system, but this rig will be used for GAMING.

I have read tons about Vista eating up memory like a squirrel gathering nuts in November.

Should these specs be sufficient enough to run Vista Premium Home (32 bit) well, even in games?  I'll be running games such as MS Flight Sim X, Armed Assault, and Operation Flashpoint 2 when it comes out... as well as Aces High 2.

(I apologize if this thread should be in hardware and software)

Mak,

That system will run Vista and AH within Vista just fine. But be aware that AH would run BETTER on that system running under XP instead.
