It would be funny to drop a Tallboy or GrandSlam on a lone Jeep.
Of course that would be overkill, but who doesnt like that?:D

These bomb were to go deep into the ground and undermine the foundation of buildings right?

Ither way, make the blast more center, and just have it flip any gv's around it :)
Or track them.

yeah..the day we get these is the day im a chinese jet pilot.

I think "Bang" would be a relative term...
For example;
A tallboy would make a bang, as it passed thru the speed of sound as it fell... I suppose it would go Bang, as it penetrated the ground... And I guess the sound of detonation 100+ feet under the ground, could be considered a "Bang" as well....
But compared to;
An 8000lb Brit Blockbuster, which was a pure Blast type weapon... Designed to level residential Apt blocks, made of masonry and wood... As a prelude to the incendiary bombs... Rubble burns better!!!
It was Pretty much just a tin can, filled with 8000lbs of torpex...
Detonated in the open air... Thats A REAL BANG!!!

My local air base, Lossiemouth (current home of 617 Squadron - the Dam Busters) has them on display, along with an Up Keep (bouncing bomb).

Note that the Grand Slam is quite a bit longer than the Tall Boy, compared to the OP's pic, suggesting there is something odd about the picture.

This is going to cause some controversy....
If my books are correct, the RAF carried the Big bombs in their inventory until the mid sixties.... They went thru a few modernizations over the years... The Brits didn't have an aircraft that could lift them up to the optimum Alt of 40k, until the Canberra/B57....
If you notice the old photo, of the single bomb in the building.... The scale seems off a little bit, as compared to your's.... Unless they used a midget in the old photo...
And the one I've seen, seemed much larger as well....
Hmmm, worthy of investigation...

I agree that the first photo, of the 2 bombs hanging, seems a little suspect...

My understanding was that in order to reach the proper impact velocity against re enforced concrete structures both the Tall Boy and the Grand Slam had to be released some 18,000 ft above their target.

The grand slam was a rare beast some 48 to 54 being dropped in spoecial raids.

Several hundred Tall boys were dropped.

8000lb cookies  were common HE container bombs dropped over "populated industrial targets" by night bombers. They were two "short" 4000lb cookies bolted together. There was also a 12000 lb cookie.

A Tall boy would be an interesting perked ordinance. Without reaching its required terminal velocity it would be somewhat less effective than than 12 x 1000lbs ...............however if it was able to bury its self 40ft under a hanger complex then the resulting crater is well over a 100ft in diameter with fall out beyond that. Making it 2 to 3 times as effective as 12 x 1000lbs

It would be neat if for example destroying the dock yard bearths in a port delayed the re spawning of a fleet plus its obvious use agaianst HQ's
