Davenrino, that is awesome! That must have been quite the experience to actually be on the island during the memorial service. Do you have any more pictures or stories to tell? I'd love to see/hear what you've got if you do.
The rest of my pictures are just more shots from the air and then the people and half a million Gooney birds on the ground. We had to wait on the taxi in for the fire dept to pick up an albatross on the tawiway, as they don't move. We had to depart after dark when there is less bird activity on the runway.
The best part of the ceremony was the presentation of the Memorial Wreath and honoring the two vets we brought. It was pretty emotional for them as well as everyone else.
We had the flight deck door open from Honolulu to Midway and talked to a lot of interesting folks. We circled the atoll once in each direction so everyone could get pictures. I was honored to chat with Bill Tunstall, a Plane Captain for Torpedo bombers on the Hornet at Midway. He was also aboard for the famous Doolittle Raid.
