The iPhone has plusses and minuses.  I'm really interested in the browser, which looks like it knocks the socks off anything else on a phone (and yes, I've used Windows Mobile) right now.

Also, the UI seems intuitive, and features like Visual Voicemail are fantastic.

The big question for me is: How much will the monthly service cost?

I've used several touch-screen devices, first one being Psion 5 in the 90s. I have serious doubts how you can operate that thing with one hand... Which is one of the main use cases of a mobile phone for me.

What good is the next generation when I don't really want the first generation?

The treo's and other PDA's dont have the interchangable touchscreen interface. You want to use the phone, the phone interface is on the touchscreen. You want to text, a full keyboard appears on the touchscreen. You want to watch video, full color screen....ect.

It's the interchangable interfaces that excites me. The possibilities are unlimited. In 5 years all phones will use this basic design. The iPhone will do to cellphones what the iPod did to the Walkman.

This is probably the incubus to the Tricorder.

I said yawn as I am not really impressed that much by this. I view it as a nice toy but nothing I'm going to shell out $500.00 for. If I want to spend that much I'll spend it on a computer upgrade rather than a phone.

I've got a phone, it will take and send pix, do texting, play games and download some videos. It does all that but that was not why I bought it. It had the best range and battery life of the low cost choices I had when we renewed the contract. I don't text, video, send pix or play games on it. I bought it for a phone and that's what I use it for. The other fluff is a fad AFAIC. I can do all the other stuff the phone does, other than take pictures, with my computer in a better fashion. I don't need the other frills and don't get excited just because someone adds a new toy to a phone. Sorry.
