Vista Password Question
« on: June 07, 2007, 07:18:10 PM »
My neighbors have been among the last to join the computer generation.  In spite of being in their 30’s, having two little kids and even a Canon Digital Rebel, they have done without a computer for years.  I’ve been trying to sell them on buying an ordinary PC.  The mom is very much into photography and wants to make scrapbooks.  Two weeks ago the mom finally breaks down and decides that it’s time.  We go through the Sunday ads and pick out a Compaq Presario with all the modern basics on sale for pretty darn cheap.  She buys it and wants to set it up herself.  A few days later I ask how it’s going; mom said that there was some little problem with the mouse.  I ask how it’s going a week later; she wants me to take a look at it.

It turns out that the first thing that dad did was set up his account and forget his password.  Of course there is no password reset disk.  I poke around the bios, but can’t see where to reset it.  I’ve only reset passwords on network accounts at school.  We’ve never set up accounts on our home PCs; just one user always logged on.  This is all new to me; I’ve never even been on a Vista PC.  Is the first account the master account?  Can we just create a new account and ignore the first one?  I Googled the topic, but am not excited about anything I’ve read.

Before I left, I looked through her stuff that came with the PC, printer, etc.; no Windows book or disk… WTH?

Compaq Presario, thats the problem lol but serously ive heard alot of problems with Vista, mostly driver compatablity with older programs.
maybe someone else with more Vista Experences can help you I'm still using XP Pro and dont plan on upgrading (or downgrading from what ive heard)

Friend of mine bought a Dell with Vista and had a very hard time getting her printers to work and Scanners sense there was no Vista drivers available for them yet ( Dell told her they would gladly sell her there printer and scanner)

Thank heavens i build my own systems

BTW,

I found this page:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=133599

But I couldn't tell what the heck I was looking at or what I need to download.

I just took another look at it.  I'm downloading: ophcrack-livecd-1.1.4.iso

and then I'm going to burn it to a CD.  Anyone used it?
