So much for those wimpy tigers teeth and rebel flags on the front of trucks...

Benjamin Carpenter was attempting to cross on Wednesday when the light turned green and his wheelchair became hooked onto the front grille of the truck, which reached 50 mph during the 4-mile trip down Red Arrow Highway, Michigan State Police Trooper Michael Sinke said witnesses reported.

Does he make it a habit of running down people in wheelchairs?

what an amazing story and a happy ending for all involved.  not to appear to be calloused about people with disabilities and the many frustrations and hardships they must endure but I have witnessed wheelchair bound citizens do remarkably stupid things into oncoming traffic.

there is an assisted living facility for handicapped adults not two miles from our home.  this facility is situated on a major four lane east/west artery.

the residents from this facility have to cross this busy highway to get to the metro on the south side.  I have witnessed several accidents involving wheelchair bound people simply hauling bellybutton onto the highway and expecting all traffic to come to a halt.  those of us that are savvy to the conditions slow down but others do not.

I wonder if perhaps this is not a similar occurance.  some of those handicapped people don't seem to much care whether they die in an accident or not.

one occasion on a very rainy day an elderly driver was making a very slow right hand turn into the post office when a wheelchair bound woman comes across her path at full wheelchair speed and gets bumped by the elderly lady's car and subsequently tipped over, in the process spilling her groceries.

I was exiting the post office parking lot making a left hand turn and had a great view of the accident.

after the accident occured the wheelchair lady was cussing up a storm as I and another man attempted to right her.  in the process she was taking punches and swings at us.  it was an absurdly comical scene.  we finally got her righted and were subjected to some spittle spewed insults at the top of the wheelchair lady's foul breath for our efforts.

when the paramedics arrived the wheelchair lady was accusing the old lady of attempting to run her down.  fortuitously for the old lady there were plenty of eyewitnesses to refute her claims and many waited until the police arrived to give statements.

About 4 p.m. Wednesday, a caller told police dispatchers, "You are not going to believe this: There is a semi truck pushing a guy in a wheelchair on Red Arrow Highway," state police said in a release.

LMAO

The fact he was unhurt turns this story from one of tragedy to one of hillariity.

The attitude of the guy in the wheel chair makes it ok to laugh

Sinke said when he arrived at the scene, the man told him "'Yeah, I'm fine. I just went for a little ride.'"

Gotta love and respect a guy that can have that happen and just kinda shug it off.

Bet he goes out and buys a Trike with the lawsuit money LOL

I see a new extreme sport may have just been born.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
