Don't dirty it anymore.  It's great

Oops!  Where's the MTO red nose color?

Hmm, found another profile of it and it shows white too.  Wish I could find a photo to support it though.  Red was the standard ID color for Allied fighter spinners in the MTO.

I've got a few conflicting sources on this aircraft. A profile in Osprey's Spitfire Aces book, a Corgi diecast and a decal sheet profile all show it as I've got it here. Of course, they could all be copying each other.....

Then there's a Hasegawa plastic kit with the same airframe number but the squadron code "QJ-4" and a red spinner. I suppose it is possible they repainted the markings on the real plane at some point.

There's also a photo of a 92 Squadron Spit in the Osprey book with what looks like a red spinner, but the only ID code visible is the "QJ" so it could be a different plane. Maybe the white spinner was a personal or flight marking.

Agreed, its entirely possible, I've got photos of the same P-51B in 2 or 3 different markings, several times over. Granted thats USAAF not RAF, but it was probably pretty common to just paint on a new identifier when it was reassigned.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Odds are it was a replacement spinner, and they didnt bother painting it red. Did it have a red spinner at some point? probably. I guess either would be accurate. Remember, its a real life scheme, and a/c didnt always have everything as "regulation" especaially operation fighter and bomber units in combat zones.

It's a question of what makes sense i think.  The red ID nose color was for a reason and someone without it was apt to get shot first and asked about it later

The USAAF birds all had it as did the RAF stuff.

Sure wish there was something photo wise to show it NOT being red.  I can't find anything in my stuff either.  Clearly you can always find exceptions to the rule too.

Looking again at the profile, I noticed its not "sky" colored but actually "white", makes me think it was deliberately that color, for whatever reason. F/L Edwards was a flight commander in 92 Sqn, could it be a unit profile for flight commanders only? I dunno, but its possible...

Problem is that's a IXe or XVIe.  I'm guessing that photo was taken near the end of the war and potentially thats a black spinner on an RCAF Spit 16 in the ETO.

Greebo - Don't know if it helps.

I did an VIII with the FT-F codes, no idea why I didn't send it in.

OK Kev, I should have checked that. I'll scrap the FT-F Spit and make it into a 417 Sqn one.
