I noticed we dont have a RAF/RCAF Spit VIII in MED colors? was wondering if it was something on the horizon, we could use one. Lots of RAAF ones, and a USAAF one but thats it, save the Spit VII from 131 Sqn.

Thx! ;)

I can do a med Spit 8 for you Squire. Had a quick look for schemes and found this. The second aircraft down is from 92 Squadron based in Italy in 1944. Pilot was Flt Lt Eddie Edwards.

I haven't managed to find any good photos of this or a similar aircraft yet, but I'll have a proper look tonight.

Thanks Greebo, any good skin you can come up with would be fine by me. Just seemed like a shame we didnt have a MED Spit VIII, seeing that was its main region outside of Burma.

Maybe a 92 Sqn or a 417 Sqn, whatever you can find a good source on.

QJ-F would be my 1st choice since it was F/L "Eddie" Edwards ride. Come to think of it, an online squadmate of mine Bill Wall, who was "Firewall" in AH, who passed away last year, was fond of that one I think, his father in law flew with him in the war.

:aok

Just trying to find some images:

We need an MTO Spit VIII in standard RAF colors too so if you are out tooling around with a 16 and 9 driver you've got the same basic scheme.

I'm going to start with the 92 Squadron Spit as I've found a photo of a Spit 8 from that squadron and also a 3 view of the colour scheme.

I'm happy to do the 43 and 417 Squadron Spits too unless Kev or someone else wants to do them. Photos of either would be handy.

Greebo, how about something from the Polish Fighting Team.  Six weeks, 25 confirmed kills.  They flew the Spit Vb and the IX.

and

(The first website was how I found Aces High 2):aok

I thought Kev had already done a Polish Fighting Team Spit 9, or am I thinking of the old Spit skins?

Thx Greebo.

Reply to above, I dont see any MED RAF skins for the IX either, musta been the old ones.

Fencer and Rogerdee did some nices ones too :aok

...looks like we need some VIIIs and IXs in MED RAF schemes. I would also agree that the 145 Sqn PFT IXs would be an excellent choice, as well as what Guppy said re a "euro camoflage" VIII ala the one he illustrated (FT-F), I think its from 43 Sqn? I know they had some in Southern France in 44 supporting the invasion (Dragoon).

Where is Kev btw? I see no leave authorisation...im sending the RAF Police, damn skinners!!! :D

I can skin a PFT Spit 9, but I'll wait and see if Kev wants to redo it first. Got a few Spits to be going on with anyway. Maybe he's away on holiday or something.

I checked again.  The only Polish skin is the Hurri MkI, 303 Squadron.  A couple Polish aces flew with the 609 and 602 Squadrons as well, but we have those skins.  The 303 is the only all-Polish squadron represented here.

The 92 Squadron Spit 8 is pretty much done, I might play around with the weathering a bit more. Can't make up my mind whether its too dirty or too clean.

This aircraft was flown by the Canadian ace James "Eddie" Edwards. Edwards scored 15.5 kills in P-40s in the desert campaign and a further 3 in Spits in Italy. He rose through the ranks from Sergeant to Wing Commander commanding 127 Wing RCAF in France. A full bio can be found here.
