Navy/Airforce Question
« on: June 11, 2007, 04:03:30 PM »
What would your grades have to be to enter the Airforce or Navy.

I still have 2 years of High School left, is there still time to improve my grades to get accepted into the airforce.

Im not doing so good right now but im gonna try to improve them alot.

I dont think i want to fly FA 18, i would rather fly someting like the Hawkeye.

Your high school grades mean nothing if you are applying for a commission and a slot for flight school.  Aside from the US Army's Warrant Officer Flight Training program, all of the other branches pilot's must be a RLO, which requires a four year college degree.  It isn't too late, don't worry.  Just maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in college, do a lot of out of class room volunteer work, and try and get some leadership experience.  Maybe even entertain the idea of your getting your ppl, and i'd say you have as good of a shot as anyone else.

Right now you are at a perfect position to turn your high school grades around.  That should be your primary focus.  Kick butt the next two years, get into a good school, have fun, stay out of trouble, and put in for a commission and a pilot slot.   Whats the worst they can say?  No?

PS -  For most of the branches you have roughly until age 29 to enter flight school, so even if you dont get picked up right out of college, know you still have nearly a decade to become competitive.

Have you taken the ASVAB test yet?

That's something they'll be looking at.

You failed PE????? Geez what did you not do? Did you not go to class or something? If you need to get in a sport and do PE that way. Run track or something and they will never fail you.

How can you fail an enterance PT Test?  I max'd mine at 17 years old back in 1975 and we had 5 events.

Stay outta McDonalds and all the other fast food places. Get out and run, practice situps, pushups and pullups.

Good luck to you.

Doesn't matter.  Recruiters will tell you to specialize in something special (aviation/engineering), however, I have met guys with Communications, English and Political Science degrees all flying jets.

If I were you I would get a degree in A-  Something that interest you, and B-  Something you can fall back on.  Even if you do get selected and fly in the military for a decade, what happens when you get out and for some reason or another lose your medical?  You need something to fall back on outside of aviation.  And dont get your panties in a bunch.  Your so young right now.  Just focus on good grades, staying out of trouble, keeping in shape, and having fun along the way.
