Disco's.....
« on: February 10, 2000, 04:19:00 AM »
Anyone else experiencing mass numbers of disco's since version 1.00?????

seems odd in beta tours 1 and 2, I had ZERO disco's, in beta tour 3, I had two.

In the 2 1/2 weeks of version 1, I've had 7!!!! 3 since it went pay,, (ie 3 since monday)

Just kinda wondering whats changed on the server, (if anything), to warrant these.

This has nothing to do with version 1.o or HTC going pay to play.  There are massive Denial Of Service attacks being run on the Internet since Monday that are putting HUGE loads on routers all over the net.

These are distributed network attack tools that are installed on hundreds, possibly thousands, of compromised Linux and Sun boxes and then used to hit targets with HUGE ammounts of garbage requests to shut them down. Reports are that Yahoo was getting a Gigabit PER SECOND in attack traffic. Ouch. For more info check out: http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2434548-2,00.html  and http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2000-01.html
Nasty stuff, and very tough to block.

Leph speaks the truth, I've been getting booted from AH, and the internet in general when simply browsing...thought something was up with my ISP, then starting reading about the cyber-punks.

Needless to say, this has been effecting the other sims, too.  I've seen it over on DoA.

I read and hear the news same as everyone else..

The Net attacks, perhaps explain the 3, (since monday...)
But what about the other 4,, prior to the attacks..

PLUS,,, I generally play late nights..
IE after 12 midnight Pacific time.
when normal west coasters are asleep..
just to minimize the traffic.

Running Ping Plotter and NeoTrace, I find a good deal of bottleneck in the D/FW area.
But the Host connection losses don't seem to corelate with the bottlenecks.

I'm at a total loss...

'course if Pac Bell would get off their A**es and get me DSL, I'd be a happy camper.....
