I believe all CA-18s are post-war planes, that served in Korea and later times.

That would be correct a number of them are here in the states now in USA markings of course. The factory that made them is only a half hour drive from where I lived in Australia as well as the museum that this 51d & another are stored. The other 51d you can get joy rides in of course for a small fee.

Yes I understand the issue about ww2 planes only but the skin of this p51d is that of a world war two era  mustang used in the raaf. my fault for not mentioning that.

Lyric,

I've never seen a photo of ww2 RAAF p51 with a shark mouth, can you provide a link?

Somehow I dont trust the Museum on this issue.

I am looking for the link I read about this skin at present I can't find it. From what I recall  it is a paint job of a pilot of squadron leader & I think it was #3 squadron. I will keep looking when I find it I will post it.

This entry is for the most part for FTJR.  Got hold of the R.A.A.F. museum the article I found had all the facts mixed up it had confused RAF 12 squadron that was called shark teeth squadron, with R.A.A.F. 3 squadron. This squad was the only Australian group that used p51's in active combat in ww2.  Twelve squadron had some kind of a link with 3 squadron as 3 squad was under English control although they had Australian markings like the p51b in the game. Later they got  p51d's & had bare metal skin except the southern cross flag on the rudder.  Here is the link for the story of how the original Australian made p51d got the sharks teeth on it & this was not done until 1947.http://bcofonline.com/is.htm Also here is a link about 3 squadron mustangs if your looking to do a skin of an Australian p51 in a combat roll there are some good photos here.http://www.awm.gov.au/ Just type in 3 squadron in the search engine.http://www.3squadron.org.au/indexpages/pics.htm Good luck.

Thanks Mate,

Interesting article, thanks also for the links. I'd already been there. I had submitted a 51 skin but I asked them to trash it because I wasn't happy with it.

I started from scratch again, but had to put it back on the burner due to RL issues. This is what I whipped up quickly before stowing it.

*warning* it is no where near complete, contains many faults, for Lyric's info only,

Ciao

Looks good so far I had seen other photos of 3 squadron mustangs & some of them looked like they had some nose art of some kind, pictures not clear enough to make them out. Funny about that article that Mc auther was aproached about taking the sharks teeth off the oz pony though.

It will take me months, if not years to get it right, especially as RL keeps getting in the way.

Yeah, funny that, since there are multiple instances of allied aeroplanes with the sharks mouth, IIRC 112 sqdn were the first guys (allied) to have the mouth.

Nice find though, shame its a couple of years too late for AH though.

Yes it is a shame it came late, but there are a few planes in the game that are not historically correct with the right skins on them. One of the Australian mozzies has the blue ringed red kangaroo on its door, that logo did not go on Australian planes until the 60's.

You could probably make a skin that was post war, as long as you didn't use it in game. Just something for you to fly around in offline or elsewhere. I know at http://www.ah-skins.com/ there are a few planes that aren't historically accurate. Unless there was a squadron that did fly "my little pony" planes. :rofl
