On the net or a BBS and no one is gonna do anything?

Been waiting for this to happen....................... ......

http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN1529267420070616?feedType=RSS&rpc=22

Wonder how it's gonna turn out.......................... .

True it may not be a winnable case BUT...........

The expense of having to go to court and.....................

Thinkin things may start changing..................... .........

Cause this kinda thing could get expensive for the BBS creator and some of the people that post on it.................
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

From what I've heard, there is no annonimity on the net.  This is nothing new.  If someone wants to find out who you are, there are ways.  For example...That beer orgy you joked about and posted was probably read by your potential employer.  If already employed you could lose your job over whats said in your blog.

I have mixed feelings about the fairness of this.  Thing about it is, if I was about to employ someone and read or saw something on a website or blog that sent up a red flag, I might think that prospective employee was stupid and not hire them.

This is an uneducated thought here, but I think if someone slanders you, you have to prove them wrong if it goes to court.  How the hell can you do that if the slander is generalized and not specific?  Saying someone is dishonest is different than saying someone stole so-and-such an a certain date.

It would be very hard to prove the plaintiff didn't get job results due to pseudonyms gossiping on the net.  And quite frankly, working for an employer who paid credence to anonymous accusations on the internet sounds like hell to me.  Lucky to not get the job working for someone like that.

It seems the real objective behind such a lawsuit would be to expose the pseudonyms and then seek money for damages.  Looks like a shakedown to me.  Dubious merit.

What slander and/or libel are still against the law?  Even on the web?

People can sue anybody for anything.  Why... I have a pending lawsuit for $54 million because the local Korean laundry lost my pants!
