warping problem with ping plotting info
« on: June 18, 2007, 05:22:20 PM »
i just got a new computer everything looks great, but im having a huge warping problem. i run off visa and the centrino duo. my video card is fine. i dont understand the ping plotter but im loosing a lot of packets.  Here is the exported text results.  I couldn't figure out how to export as an image.  It's telling me that I have 100% packet loss on hop #2 which is my cable modem (Motorola sb5100).  I do have a very recent firmware upgrade installed on SB5100.

The problems are appearing in your second and forth hops, all within Comcast's network.  You need to send this information to them and have them work on it.

If the second hop is your router, then try power cycling (turn it off, wait a minute, then turn it back on again) the router.  If the router is wireless, you may be getting interference and need to turn down the speed of the local connection in order to reduce bit error rates.

I'm having this same problem.

I'm now continuing to have it in Michigan at my friend's place.

Here ping plotter looks fine, but I'm still getting rubber banding like crazy.  Back in Denver I see the same ping plotter results that you guys describe.

I'm starting to think it is something with my comp, but I can't for the life of me figure out what.

Tested firewall, AH is allowed and even down doesn't change.
I removed my router from the loop back home and still got packet loss at the first hop (instead of second).

Heres one of the fishiest things:
When I watch the ping details off the server board, the lost number will quickly increment to 1, then go back to 0 as the packet gets through.  I've got to believe this is it, whatever it is.  This hickup is really screwing with my flying.

I've noticed it gets worse too the more people I share airspace with.

I have no framerate problems, and I only float between 500-800MB of 1GB RAM.  I have 2 Nvidia Go 7900 SLI with 256MB each.  My resolution is still set to 1024.  (DxDiag is only seeing 256MB total though for some reason, as does the ctr I info in the game).

Ping times on the server board and in ping plotter are between 30-40 ms.

Turned off windows packet scheduler at the advice of my friend here, no change.

I've had Comcast all over my line at home and if its something there its outside the building box.  Here is Jazz DSL or something like that.

All other bandwidth type stuff seems to be working well.  No reported problems here.

Scuzzy what is it, please?

Also, what kind of network adapters do you guys have?

Try dumbing down your system. Drop down to 256 textures, don't pre load anything, a gig of ram these days isn't really that much, it takes almost 2.5 gig to preload all the skins. I think Skuzzy said something about they JUST got a profile for video SLI for aces high, but he didn't like it. Don't quote me on that.

My thinking is if the problem followed you half way across the country, it must be in you box. How does the game work off line? Post your specs, and the first third of a Dxdiag report, maybe some one can spot a problem for ya.

Yeah its gotta be something with my machine.  I thought I had isolated it outside my home network, but guess not.

I've tried turning down graphics.  It works fine offline, I get now warping of myself, just others around me.  I have no frame rate problems whatsoever, at least after the initial load is complete.

I have been having problems with comcast for a year now & they won't do anything about it. I sent ping plots to them to show the packet loss at comcast.beaverton.  whatever. They sent a tech out to my house & changed my modem out. No difference.
Several other ah'ers that I know are having the same problem with comcast. I think it's time to dump them & go with dsl

Woody,

don't count on DSL solving your problems.  I have Verizon DSL and you knowthe problemsI'm having.  lost packets at every hop in the Verizon network.

Warping as well...

Two events have really hurt me flying with Aces High, I'm almost ready to can AH and go to Warbirds ( I'm flying Russian Warbirds once in a while ).

I bought a new HP Pavilion computer and also AH released a new version of the game about the same time, and since then I really battle warping.

I've disabled the firewall, the antivirus, the automatic windows update, and added MEMMAX to try and fix it, but it's a crapshoot if the warping appears or not. 60% of the time I'm warping or others are ( and probably me as well).

Not fun when folks are cursing me for warping I can't control. I try and log off and restart, but half of the time that doesn't help, so I just quit the game.

Sad...

Have you run a pingplot to HTC servers? If you have post it here, if not do so and then post it here. Complaining about lag isn't helping, supplying some info so some people might be able to help could help more.

Stock Pavillions come with about 60 to 65 background processes loaded on them and usually have an Intel video chip.  It takes a significant effort to make the game play smoothly on those systems.

Cleaning up the background processes is the first thing that needs to happen.  Assuming this is Windows XP.

Next, turn the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256 in the game's "Video Settings".  The resolution should be 1024x768, and no higher.

You might be able to preload textures into system RAM, if your computer has 1GB if RAM, or more.

I have done the exact same thing as woody has  with comcast and got the same result. I have done everything recommended  by all of you very kind people, and still having the same problems as far as terrible warping. I've been playing this lovely game for years now, all the way since AH 1, all on a crappy computer with no problems. As soon as i get this bad prettythang computer with VISTA, the warping is out of control. [i think its vista, but i am not qualified to guess at computer problems] I am at a complete loss and very frustrated. I love this game, but i too am so tired  of people personally and publicly harassing me about my warping over text every time i get on,i don't pay a monthly fee for this. I still have faith that it will all work out . I will keep listening and looking for tips. If i figure something out that fixes the warping i'll let everyone know.
