Telekenesis
« on: June 19, 2007, 09:27:57 AM »
i had a random drunken conversation over the weekend with a friend and we ended up talking about telekenesis, and were both quite interested. i've heard there have been real, witnessed cases of telekenesis and psychic abilities, he didn't believe me, naturally, but i was wondering if anyone here knows anything about it?

the real reason i'm asking is also that, when i was a young kid, about 6/7 yrs old i think, i sat at the top of a small staircase, about 5-6 stairs, and levitated down them. i know it sounds very strange and, well, like a heap of bull*****, but i can swear i did it, and my younger brother saw me do it. i was in a weird trance-like state, and didn't think anything of it at the time, it was like it was a perfectly normal thing to do...

i've never been able to do anything at all abnormal ever again, and i think i hadn't done anything like it before then either, it was a total one-off.

i know it sounds rediculous, so take it as you will, but if anyone knows anything about this kind of stuff i'd be quite grateful, purely because i'm quite interested. as far as i know there have been a fair few legitimate stories of psychic ability, levitation, telekenesis, and i'd quite like to find out more, especially since my little flying incident (which has always quite scared me)

thanks much in advance :aok try not to laugh to hard :D

From talking to other people, I've found out that pretty much everyone has one hyper-realistic dream about levitating in one form or another.  I remember mine.

hmmmm, i've always tried to pass it off as a dream, but my little brother has always told me that he remembers me doing it. i always try to pass that off as him being young at the time and imagining it.

i can rationally dismiss it, but there's always that lingering doubt. but if other people have had dreams like that though i guess it's proof enough for me for a while :)

just out of curiosity... do you think the existence of  telekenesis  is more, or as  possible, as the existence of god?

I really don't know if telekenisis exists or not..

If you were 6 or 7, how old was your younger brother, and how well do you trust his memory at that age? Could be that he as your younger brother, would believe anything his older brother told him he saw.

I knew a nutty pot head kid when i was younger, who swore he could levitate. Funny thing is, he could only do it when no one else was in the room. :lol

lol :)

yeah, i've always thought the same, that he was too small to really remember it, he would have been about 4 then. i just remember it sometimes. i know that it just doesn't seem right, and i always tell myself that i dreamt or imagined it, but i can never really totally dismiss it, it was (or atleast felt) like it was so real.

i basically sat at the top of this small thing of stairs, cross legged, and floated out across them unfolding my legs in the air and walking off at the bottom. it was so weird, i really felt nothing of it, it was like it was a normal thing to do. when my brother asked how he could do the same thing, we both realised what had happened. the likelyhood is that it was either a very vivid dream, or we imagined it, but it doesnt really feel that way...

it's always kind of spooked me out, understandably

@ lazs, i think it's just as possible as god, or more so. jesus after all had telekinetic powers, like walking on water, fabrication etc. science certainly doesn't rule it out, they think that the conciousness works somehow within quantum mechanics. most scientists involved with this kind of thing say it's very possible, and there have been recorded witnessed cases, from flying catholic saints to one guy who worked for stalin, who proved his abilities to him by getting through into stalin's room (past hundreds of armed guards).

stalin didn't believe him, so he asked him to rob a bank with his powers to prove it. he handed the cashier a blank piece of paper, and the cashier gave him heaps of cash. when the guy returned with the money, accompanied by stalin's intellegence guys, the cashier had a heart attack apparently.

i think it's all very weird, it's something that by our current scientific knowledge seems impossible, but i'm very sure of what happened, it was very vivid (i don't often remember my dreams, but this thing was 12 years ago and i remember it like it was yesterday). it's all very weird. i was just kind of wondering if anyone else has ever had anything this weird happen to them?

Mr Biggles, respectfully, "telekinesis" is not the correct term for your experience.  It is more appropriately referred to as "jumping down to the landing."

your younger brother's recollection of your "telekenesis" is commonly referred to as "humoring the over-imaginative older brother."

You'd be surprised how detailed your mind can fabricate memories.

Memory is surprisingly unreliable.  Watch a movie you last saw when you were six years old and you might be surprised at the differences between your memory and the real thing.

When I was a kid, I saw a glowing ball of light in my peripheral vision as I rode my bike past the local pond.  As an adult, I question my memory of the event.  Was it a dream, an optical illusion, an overactive imagination, or just too much Pink Floyd?

"When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone."
Do not attribute to malice what can be easily explained by incompetence, fear, ignorance or stupidity, because there are millions more garden variety idiots walking around in the world than there are blackhearted Machiavellis.

When I was five my head fell off once and rolled down the stairs; I saw it happen.  Ironically it was not long after I saw a scary movie where some guy got his head chopped off.

i personally do think it was a dream, but it always bugs me, because it would be the only dream i ever remembered for anywhere near that length of time or in such clarity, which is why it always spooked me, it was a weird thing that i've always remembered.

that, and my brother apparently remembers it.

but, could very well be (and is likely to be) dumb little kids playing. there's always a feeling at the back of my mind that it wasn't though.
