I honestly prefer the AH flight model to IL-2's. I hesitate to bring this up, I'm sure it has been discussed before but... I have spent the last 3 years or so flying IL-2, I used to fly AH1 as Ely/Elysian with JG3/.2 for a long time before that.
Like most of us, I have no experience flying high performance piston-engined aircraft. I can't vouch for which FM is more "realistic". I would guess they both do a fine job approximating flight on a computer.
The main reason I like AH's FM more is the planes fly different, they each have somewhat of a personality. No matter how hard I tried, I never could feel that much with IL-2. It always felt like I was flying the same plane, just differing engines, armament and weights. However in AH II there are things like some planes really being much better gunnery platforms then others. Try BnZing in an A6M5b or Mosquito, both are hard to get lined up for shots, they wobble around on their respective flight paths. F4Us like to ground loop. 109s and P-38s compress, F6F is a terrific, stable gunnery platform. These kind of details are everywhere and make for a much richer flying experience.
I'm glad to see HTC flourishing somewhat, the changes I've seen are good ones and it's nice to come back to.
