After looking at that link, I'm curious as to how many propeller driven combat aircraft (not helos or Osprey-ish) are still being used/or developed.

Not sure where the question is directed. I know that prop aircraft are still in high development, hence pipers, push-pulls, and cesna. Are you refering to the aircraft that shot down the traffickers? If so, that is a good question. I would assume that the aircraft was refurbished or just modified and outfitted with weapons. Anyone have any educated information on this?

Porkfrog posted the link. You could at least read that article before you assume.

There are many similar aircraft in service. Pilatus PC-9 and derivates (Texan II), PZL-130 to name the few.

Both Tucano and Super Tucano come standard with wing mounted 2 x 0.50 cals. There's an option for 20mm cannon pod.

"The main missions of the aircraft, in addition to basic and advanced pilot training, are border patrol and counter-insurgency operations" and in that role Tucano is simply superb...

That wasn't combat...it was stepwise display of force against a plane that ignored warnings and refused to stop running. The plane kept running for the border even after being fired upon by marked military aircraft; and we have to assume that the pilot had very good reasons to take that kind of risk.

Yeah, unfortunatley the internet connection and firewalls etc onboard my ship don't allow most content to display properly, this being one of those times. Hell, if you try to access youtube, we get diverted back to the ships homepage. But you know, you are right. Keep in mind that assumptions got us to send transmissions to be intercepted by the Japanese to verify they were targeting Midway. Not the end of the world. Thanks for the info though.
