I am deciding upon whether or not to pick up the TrackIR. Is it worth while to get TrackIR or should I stick with POV on stick?

Track IR is worth every penny, and get the pro clip, much more reliable than the reflectors.  A few caveats though, there is a learnin curve, but with the help of the people here i am sure that there is more than enough help to get you through. a few things though....

1) If you arent already, use FSautoatart, it makes a huge difference in performance all around, but especially when using the TrackIR

2) take some time to make sure that the area you play in is free from bright  lights behind you.  I make sure that any extra lights are shut off behind me and that the blinds are closed, simple enough.

3) Quit smoking.  Nothing like being in a furball and having the cherry on your smoke mess up your view

Was worth every penny for me too. I do have the reflector version and have no trouble whatsoever. Also I didn't take any noticeable performance hit (old AMD 64 3000)

I addition to what Clerick said I might add

- It's all about proper setup. Select the "aggressive" one to start with, then tweak a lot for a few days to find the most comfortable one.

- Force yourself to use TIR view only from start. I read about people using TIR only for the cruise and hat views during actual combat. IMHO that's wasting the TIR advantages and just prolonges the learning process.

Yes TrackIR is worth it.

I tried the pro clip and didn't like it as much as the reflectors, to much jitter for me using the pro clip.

Takes some getting use to, so like was said before force yourself to use it. Once you get use to it you will not go back to the hat switch.

Don't take that "superior performance" too seriously, though ;)

True enough, but it sure can get rid of a lot of little things that add up.  I tried it before i got my TIR and never noticed anyhting, but afterwards i REALY noticed it.  Does it give my single-core Athalon Quad-core performance?  Heck no!  It just helps me utilize a greater percentage of my computers power (which right now is 0%, stupid motherboard!)

I actually got dizzy the first several nights I used mine but I found out my SA is much better than it used to be.  Ya gotta make yourself use it; you'll be tempted to turn it off temporarily.
I also find myself using it in conjunction with my Hat Views (ex: Hat rear and use TIR to check either side of the seat by moving head left or right)

TrackIR is the best and totally worth every penny!

It's a little confusing at first but after a few sorties you will start getting the hang of it.

I never realized how much my head moved until using TrackIR

Greetings,

I use TrackIR.  Lovely device.  You can put your whole body in the fight.  To look behind me, I look left (or right) and rotate the shoulder.  I can then look around the tail of a D40, N or Pony.  I cannot imagine going back to the hat switch now.  Definately worth the money.

Warning, expect your shooting to not be as effective early on.  Put a button on your stick to recenter the device on occaision as it will 'float' after a certain amount of movement.  I also recenter just prior to shooting.

Regards,

I have had the tracker for several months now,

and personally, I would not fly without it.

my score has improved drastically with it.
If you are as hooked on this game as I am it is definately a must have !!!!!

Hawser,

As you might have read in another thread I am having issues with my TrackIR.  While it is frustrating for me, I will say this..... when it is working as it should it is nothing short of awesome.  You have the best situatiuonal awareness you could possibly have during a dogfight.

It also frees up your POV on your stick so that you can map it to your trim controls.  This is very handy, especially if you are in a plane that gets heavy controls, at high speed.

What is frustrating (for me at least) is that it is a bit tempermental at times and some days it seems to work better than others.

Even with the issues I've been having with it, I don't think I'll go back to using the POV switch.

Yes, get and use the tracker.

Worked out of the box for me.  Had an issues with background lighting but resolved it.

TIR is worth its price. I use the hat clip with reflectors, and got a lot of help from the guys in here with profiles. Once its set up for you its a valuable tool. Also use FSautostart and it does help at least with my PC.
