The search for Sgt. Genaust - Iwo Jima
« on: June 28, 2007, 02:09:11 PM »
Just read this last night, thinking some here might find it newsworthy.

The guy who was standing next to Joe Rosenthal as he photographed the second flag raising was marine cameraman Bill Genaust.  Genaust was operating an 8mm film camera and recorded the entire second flag raising in motion.

Nine days after filming the second flagraising, Bill Ganaust was killed in battle on Iwo Jima as he investigated a hillside cave.

Would be something special if they could bring him back all these years later.

I wish them luck in bringing any of our troops home. That's a worthwhile cause and mission, for both sides.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
