Nebraska WILL be in it again, but they aren't ANYTHING like Tom Osbourne's years. He was an analytical genius.
Tom Osborne was one of a kind. He was the offensive genius behind Bob Devaney's two national titles.
The reason they aren't anything like in Osborne's years is because of Frank *Took a Spank* Solich. That guy got handed the keys to a national powerhouse and drove it into the ground with shoddy play calling and even worse recruiting.
Thankfully Solich got canned. I was very surprised when he didn't get the ax the year he went 7 - 7.
Callahan had a huge rebuilding job when he was hired. There was some decent food on the table, but the stuff in the cupboards stank to high heaven. On top of the personnel issues he faced he also changed the offense from the option to the West Coast Offense.
With his recruiting efforts, the depth chart is finally starting to look like something resembling a football team again. Callahan took over in 2004 and Nebraska had their first losing season since before I was born. Since then the Huskers have improved each year. I expect they will do even better than last year and while they may not be *there* yet, if they keep heading in the same direction they soon will be.
