Luftwaffe Skin Requests for Der Grosse Schlag
« on: July 04, 2007, 08:40:32 PM »
We are going to try something new with Der Grosse Schlag the next scenario in Aces High.

We are going to try and have historical skins for all the units involved.

Fortunately a good number of the units are already represented.  However there are a few that need to be filled in on the Luftwaffe side.

Below is a list.

I/JG 2 Fw 190A-8
I/JG 3 Bf 109G-14
III/JG 26 Bf 109G-14
I/JG 27 Bf 109G-14
II/JG 27 Bf 109K-4
III/JG 54 Fw 190D-9
I/JG 300 Bf 109K-4 (Under Construction by Fencer)

There is already a I/JG3 G14 in the game but it is a unique scheme and if someone wants to we could use a nice normal camo patterned one.

Would some of you skinners be willing to step up and do some skins and have them ready for inclusion in the game by the September 1, 2007 inclusion date?

Please state in this thread any skins you are willing to do.

Thanks in advance.

Salute Lord Fencer.

I would be very happy to make the I/JG3 G14.  A squadmate of mine has a book on JG3 that I am sure he could send me a few scans of.  I assume we find our own reference or does the scenario team have a specific one in mind they would like made?

If we are researching our own, how about a specific location and time-frame.  Course, I havent read the link you posted yet so could already have the answer :)

Many thanks to all involved to this point.  DGS promises to be the premier event of 2007.  I would hope to see all Luftwobbles present, in their shiny new skins. :aok

Fencer, I am unable to find any immediate reference to JG2 using 190s past the 190A-6. Are you sure you've got the right unit there? I can't find any examples online. All I can find are a few IL2 skins (which I view as 100% unreliable without any other sources) and 1 built model kit that may have the wrong markings.

I'm curious what a profile would look like for one of these planes.

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Did find this Dora from I/Jg 2 and the right time period though (if the attachment works).

Yes, but I cannot find anything after A-6. No A-7s no A-8s no A-9s. Did they fly 109s in this time frame, or something?

There are no A5s in the DGS scenario, so that doesn't help me (but thanks for the effort).

EDIT: The skin would be for the A-8, so dora profiles aren't an option.

EDIT2: I think it's odd, is all. I could find profiles for JG1, JG3, JG4, JG5, but no JG2.

Well an A6 skin on an A8 wouldn't be all THAT far off as a sub for a scenario.

Closer than an FM-2 for a Brewster anyway....

You don't understand, any skins have to follow the normal rules. They won't be taken off when the scenario's done. So any skin you submit will still follow the same scrutiny.

A5 vs A8 is still a big enough difference.

My main question arose because the flight line said A-8 for JG2, and from what I gather Fencer's using historical line-ups to fill out the choices.

So if it's historical, why can't I find anything for a skin?

It's driving me nuts...

(okay, more so)

I have data which shows a loss of a 190A8 by I/JG2 in mid November.

Also Aviation Elite Units by Osprey "Jagdgeschwader 2" shows I/JG2 as having FW190s at this time (November 1944)  Although II/JG2 had 109Gs as did III/JG2.

I did check after you mentioned not finding any profiles, and I too don't see any in my books.

Now I wish I had more stuff on the 190 to look for photos, its bugging me too. Scouring my usual sources and coming up empty.
