Need help with AH 2
« on: July 09, 2007, 10:41:40 PM »
I used to run aces high 2 on this computer around a year ago, well I deleted it and now I have redownloaded it (the newest version). But when I try to start the game up it starts to open up but before the main menu it stops and a microsoft error report opens. I have tried many things to get it to work but nothing is helping, I used to play it on this same pc too, I have even improved some of the components since then. I am runing on a basic machine 640mb of RAM, 1.8 GHz processor, a RADEON 9200 series 128 mb video card (I do have directX 9.0c also). last time I used the built in video card (which is 64mb) but I was getting the error so I put the one in and it didnt resolve anything. If any one has any ideas or things that may help please tell me or e-mail me at ruzz__13@hotmail.com Thanks -Joe-

i sent ya the link in pm ... and i'll post it here to

heres the omega drivers ..you what these here . they work on all our ati cards from the 9200 - the x850

Radeon Omega Driver 2.5.97a
Size: 15Mb
Hits: 12684
Author: ATI & Omegadrive
Description: Catalyst 4.12
Operation System: Windows XP/2000

http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=...p;dwn_cat_id=14

now for your sound driver it didnt say in your DxDiag what sound card you have and theres no driver listed beside default . you may have to go to the dell website and look up your pc's number for those .

and if that link dont work go here

http://www.omegadrivers.net/archive.php

look for
14.9MB  Radeon Omega Drivers 2.5.97a (Catalyst 4.12)     Windows 2000/XP

The lack of sound card drivers is going to keep the game from running.   And you need to disable that 'Modem #0' psuedo-sound device in the hardware device manager as well.

Alright thanks for the help but the same thing is still happening I downloaded the video and sound drivers... But I didnt find a 'Modem #0' psuedo-sound device in my device manager, so that may still be an issue but I looked around and found nothing of that sort, here is the newest version of my DxDiag if it helps.

Before you installed the new version of the game, did you completely remove the old version?  If not, do the following;

Remove the cache, skins, and squads folders from the game's installation directory.

Rename the 'settings' folder and try it.

Display Devices
---------------
Card name: VISIONTEK Xtasy RADEON 9250 PCI (Omega 3.8.360)
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. (Omega 3.8.360)
Chip type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x5960)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5960&SUBSYS_7C271545&REV_01
Display Memory: n/a
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Default Monitor
Monitor Max Res:
Driver Name: ati2dvag.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6683 (English)
DDI Version: unknown
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 3/14/2007 20:57:34, 267776 bytes

You still may have video driver problem, if those newer omega's dont work you need to go back to these
Radeon Omega Driver 2.5.97a

also there's no display memory listed  , that maybe a bios setting keeping this from being reconized correctly.

I got a question......

In his first DX post his video was this....

---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: VisionTek RADEON 9200 Series
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x5960)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5960&SUBSYS_7C271545&REV_01
Display Memory: 128.0 MB
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

On his next DX post, a day later, its this....

---------------
Display Devices
---------------
Card name: VISIONTEK Xtasy RADEON 9250 PCI (Omega 3.8.360)
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. (Omega 3.8.360)
Chip type: ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x5960)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5960&SUBSYS_7C271545&REV_01
Display Memory: n/a
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Would changing the drivers change the name of the card like that?  Other than that and the display memory not being listed they are the same.  In my limited work on these things I've never seen that. What would cause that? Old drivers not uninstalled first, or completely? New drivers installed un complete, or with corupted files?

I know this doesn't help, but I was just curious.

The video card name comes from the video card driver.  It is not acually contained on the video card.  There are codes on the video card the driver uses to create the name of the device shown in DXDIAG.  Different drivers can be more or less elaborate.
