AVG is easily as good at protecting the families computer. Dig out all the Norton crap and let AVG take care of things.

This could effect the Variance.  The 6100 and 6200 video series from NVidia are extremely low end solutions.  You need to minimize the resources the game uses in order to get any consistent performance from these video chips.

In the "Video Settings" of the game, set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256.  Try to keep the resolution at 1024x768.  If your computer has a 1GB of RAM, or more, and you are running Windows XP. then go ahead and check the "Preload textures to system RAM" option.

I would disable skins in the game. In the Options->Preferences->Graphic Options.  And uncheck the background download of skins in the hangar as well.

If you have had skins enabled, then remove the 'cache' and 'skins' folder in the Aces High II installation directory to ensure they do not get loaded again.

The 50% load shown in the Task Manager is a bug in the way the Task Manager deals with dual-core CPU's.  Ig nore it.  The more applicable number is at the bottom center of the 'Processes' tab.  It is the overall CPU usage.  When you think you computer is idle.  This number should bounce between 0 and 1 percent on a dual core system.  Absolutely no higher than that and it should be switching back and forth as regular as a heartbeat.

Do you mean in Graphic Detail check disable other planes skins?
