A little experiment
« on: July 10, 2007, 07:43:15 PM »
Found out something a bit interesting today. I found out how many rounds from a 75mm pack howitzer it takes to drop an enemy HQ. Well OK not the exact number but it's pretty close. Got killed by a defending P-38 on my first run but when I died I had roughly 30 rds left.

Anyway here is the deal. Went to the EW arena today. Looked around and saw the Bish had a V base with a spawn right at the Rook HQ. I switched to bish and upped an LVT4 to the HQ. Fired off around 60-70 rounds, all hits on the HQ and then got killed. Re-upped in an M-16 and killed the P-38, towered out and came back in an LVT4. Fired off all 100 rds, also direct hits. Towered, re-upped again and fired off an additional 80 rds and dropped the HQ.

So roughly 250 rds of 75mm HE will drop the HQ. Was kinda cool to see it drop from close range like that. Granted there was only a couple of Rooks online at the time and they had a fight going on else where, other than the one guy who came over to kill me.

if you want to know how much it takes go to this link http://www.hitechcreations.com/help.html and then click Strategic Targets

and the hq take 37 1000 lb to kill.

of course, you could have upped an M3 and dropped vehicle supplies first. then you wouldn't have had to keep towering and re-upping.  just food for though.

Sorry mate I posed a trick question when I asked

Interesting to know but how many 1,000 Lb bombs does it take ? I'd like to know that un

That 37,000 Lbs figure is 2 years out of date.  If HQ ain't been hit you'll need 3 sets of Lancs carrying a total of 126,0000 Lbs.  5 sets of B24's or 5 sets B17's also kills HQ.

Others have argued that it is still 37K but only the middle or only 1 bomber actually hits HQ.  Meaning HQ unlike other structures isn't effect by "blast radius".  I've seen HQ taken out with 3 sets of Lancs.  I've yet to see it taken out by 3 solo Lancs.

Anyone intrigued by what I've written feel free to prove me wrong:aok

so someone do a search (I am way to lazy as I don't really care) on the actual poundage of the 75mm HE round.

I know it has been tested in game and someone had a chart of all the different rounds and what = 100lbs of explosive... IIRC that was the baseline, so and so many rounds of .50 or 20mm =100lbs, and tank rounds were brought in, rockets too giving the approximate "value" in AH.

I'd also like to see if all arenas have the same hardness settings for objects, just out of dumb waste time curiosity.

BTW the calculations if your numbers are correct, make the 75mm worth 148lbs of explosive (for an HQ that actually has a hardness of 37,000lbs)
I don't know what to put here yet.

The HQ takes 72k to kill IIRC.
A Rook who first flew 09/26/03 at the age of 13, has been a GL in 10+ Scenarios, and was two-time Points and First Annual 68KO Cup winner of the AH Extreme Air Racing League.
