Easy there now people......

You there put that gun down!!!... right now !!!!

Easy now people... I've got 3 things I want modelled, imo its for realisms sake.

1. Head Thickness
No not talking about HT's or Pyro's head, am talking about an average head. Gotta admit its THICK  :)
When I move my head to the side of a window I can't place my retina flush on the glass surface, part of my head gets in the way.
Head movement should be limited in that manner, you can't be able to move your head until you can see the polygon representing the canopy in the middle of the screen.

2. Glass Thickness
Same as above. A polygon has no thickness, a glass canopy does.

3. Neck length, or shoulder strap length
There is no way in hell you can move your head on the P-51 all the way fwd to where the K-14 gunsight sits and look 180 degrees back. FWD movement of head should be restricted to max length that the shoulder starps would allow.

Snorkey

that is all...... flame away   :p

Howabout a dot-commands ".straps loose" and ".straps tight" ?

In loose condítion you can check your 6 quite freely but in aggressive movements in fights your head will bounce from side to side... And DO NOT fly inverted in this mode  ;)

Just kidding btw

agree 100%

i really like the option to move your view positions, but i think at present teh limits are a bit too liberal

Nah they aint to liberal, they simply try to compensate for movments u cannot do in AH view system.

i.e. when flying a D9 or F8 this big overhead cockpit frame is always right in the way when u try to roll ur lift vector on the opponent. in RL u 1st have 2 eyes and 2nd without any time passing u can move ur head 2 inches left or right so u can see past that dang thing (i dont have enough fingers to fly an immelman, hold the view key for top view and additional move the head left or right with the cursor keys).

And why u can move the head so far back (ahead) in rear view, its to get aleast an idea of the real field of view a pilot had, in AH u have saw aabout 50-60 degree ind RL u got 160-180 degree for side view and 140-160 degree vertikal.

You cant turn your head 180 but you also ahvnt mirrors in AH.. but real planes had mirrors.. but those small mirrors cloud be good fun instead head mastering  :)

the reason most pilots had to tighten their straps when they ditched was because they were loose in flight.   Bulged canopies like the Malcolm and the corsair allowed for "head thickness"  other planes had cutouts behind the seat or the canopy was wider than the rear fusalage.

we can't see as well as real pilots with the limitations of the monitor as it is.

If you can't look behind yo then you shouldn't be driving a car.

Real WWII pilots say that they could see behind em just fine.

Most (except LW) planes had mirrors that worked quite well and we don't.

About the mirrors, I've read several pilots say that they were only useful if the enemy was directly behind you. And that if they were, the enemy would probably open up before one saw him.

Keep in mind that some of these seats were "moveable" depending on how you care to define that.

Considering the view limit we currently have flying our planes through a window with as much visibility as a 15" porthole on a fishing trawler, the current view's are perfectly fine IMHO.

Let's face it, we do not have 120° of viewability - we got about 60°.  If I had a monitor about as wide as Hangtime's butt, then yes, start limiting the head movement.  :D
