WWII Trivia Question.
« on: July 11, 2007, 05:34:09 PM »
My father-in-law will be giving a speech in a few weeks.  He wanted to know how many of the 16,000,000 US Military personnel in WWII actually saw combat.  He searched the net for quite awhile and couldn’t find the answer; I looked a bit and couldn’t find it either.  I told him I’d ask you guys; one of you is bound to know or know where to look.

Thanks,

eskimo

Just two, Patton and Bradley.... everyone else was fodder.

My Fodder, My Fodders Brothers, my Moms Fodder, My Fodders Brothers-in-Law, my Grand Fodders Brothers... my Fodders Fodder. My Fodders Nephews...

Yep just two.

I'm searching right now.  If any place has the answer, this book will (free online):

http://www.scribd.com/doc/10131/Dirty-Little-Secrets-Of-World-War-II-by-James-F-Dunnigan-and-Albert-A-Nofi

According to this book, it says that 40% of the U.S. military never got near the fighting.
