I can't say I wasn't completely dissapointed with this one. It could have been little bit better but seems the blood scenes and the faces/guys added was a nice touch

Well, the story of the USS Laffey was a pleasant surprise. The Luftwaffe ramming unit story was uninteresting to me.

If we look at the Laffey story alone, this episode is a keeper. This fight is one of those special stories that stands out in US Naval history. Naval historian Samuel Elliot Morrison called the Laffey, "The ship that would not die." No other US ship survived such a concentrated kamikaze attack. This incident demonstrated the durability of the Sumner class DD as well as the fighting skills and damage control training of the American sailor.

Here's a copy of the After Action Report written by the Laffey's CO. It can be found, along with a lot of other interesting material, on the website dedicated to the Laffey.

Commander Becton's decorations include the Navy Cross and THREE Silver Stars!

After the kamikaze attack had been beaten off, Becton received a message from the Task Force Commander asking if Laffey had survived the battle. Becton replied with one sentence...

"LAFFEY LAUGHS LAST."

Later, Admiral Moosbrugger (probably the most famous US Destroyer Group commanders) sent this message to the Laffey:

Its amazing how 2 Luftwaffe pilots survived ramming another airplane. the 1st one was lucky because he hit with his wing and not his fuselage.

I feel bad for the B24 and B17 pilots who had to go through that. :cry

I swear with as much resources that Widewing has, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a pair of Hitler's underwear autographed.

So after every new episode of Dogfights you see an infludx of people trying to silulate what they saw. SBD dogfight episode is a good example. Does this mean we will have even more suicide bombers than usual?
