I've been disappointed with my X45 for some time now.   I'm on my 3rd one, and needed a parts one (thanks Harry1) to keep it working.

I don't really like the x52 as the spring is even weaker.    I do NOT like a lot of "slack" in the stick.

I am looking at Thrustmaster COUGARS on Ebay for $200, including both the stick and throttle.    Is this setup worth it?

I know CH gets the praise, but they are too "loose" for me.   The Throttle moves too easily, I do like "resistance".

Here's my question, what options do I have?   Mind you I'll be married 9 years in Dcc. so she "won't exactly be thrilled to spend $300 on CH products".

I have great success with the cheap, despised, reviled, Logitech Extreme 3dPro. It has a terrible reputation as a fragile piece of junk, but mine generally last me about 2 years, even though I just throw them away at the first sign of spiking. I also toss'em into my suitcase and fly them all over the world as I travel (one has at least 75,000 air miles). Until I discard'em, they work very well, and I spend a lot less than most folks. I have some "training movies" on this subject. See them here:

Then Click on:

Aces High  ->  Training Movies  -> Peabody

I flly the P38 almost exclusively. Because they seem to last a lot longer for me than for other folks, I'm asking myself whether some aircraft, or some pilots are a lot more "heavy-handed" than I am. Maybe I don't put as much strain on the joystick as others do. As I think about it, I generally use only light pressure, and I rarely press the stick against the stops. I don't "scale" the stick either. I'd guess that I rarely even press the stick beyond 50% of it's travel in any dimension.

Is this different for most folks?

:lol

Well clearly you don't fly more than 30min a day..  Infact i remember i'd see your room up like a week out of a year when i'd pop in h2h to pwn a few people. Not only are they pos's they handle like crap and the layout is annoying. But you seem to like them keep flying with them.:D

One of the changes of X52 Pro is stronger (double in fact) spring.

But, the Cougar is only about $50 more than the Pro.   I've grown to hate Saitek's quality.   I used a Logitech wingman for 2 years, and it is still being used by a former squaddie.    I never had an issue with it.

I have a TM FLCS and TQS, imho the TM layout and feel is far superior to the Saiteks. I've retired my TM stuff because it was getting spikey, and use an X45. If I could I would grab a cougar.
