Big Buff mission tonight
« on: February 10, 2000, 09:02:00 AM »
Hi, guys.  Laying on a big buff mission for tonight (Thursday, 9:15 PM EST).  Anyone interested in participating should be at the Knight's main field no later than 9:15 PM EST.  Contact Cobra, who will assign a tactical radio channel.  This mission will be opposed by an organized force consisting of the special Tour of Duty fighter unit.

This is a historical recreation of a Luftwaffe intercept of a B-17 bomber raid.  We will be asking everyone else to stay clear of the buff force, so as to allow as historical a match up as possible.  Depending on the size of the Luftwaffe force, the bombers may or may not have escort for the whole trip.  We'd definitely like at least four Stangs to cover the flight for at least part of the trip, though.

Rojo-

Doing my best to stir it up! Can we all participate? If so, what positions are available? Can we be either LW or Allied?

I'll be there to fulfill whatever capacity is needed, on whatever side. Everyone should be reminded there is a 12-hour limit on switching sides, so don't make any hasty decisions.

HT, could you maybe lift the country switch time limit for tonight's affair? It would make coordination of players a bit easier, and we could balance sides better.

Keiren,

I thought the side-switch time-limit was 1 hour.  At least that what it was last week when I would switch sides for TOD.  Has HTC changed this limit?

Thanks!

buhdman, out

(Hey, register with rojo and come fly with the TOD force.  We need replacement pilots! I think you can register by sending him an e-mail.)

The more the merrier.  I much appreciate any support.  I want to fill out the bomber force first, since it needs to be a "challange" to the Tour of Duty (TOD) guys.  If we get enough bombers/escorts, I'll consider allowing some extra folks to switch to Rooks and fly with the TOD Luftwaffe Squadron.

For those who aren't familier with TOD, this is a series of pre-planned fighter missions people can register for.  Each pilot must complete at least five of the 12 missions to receive a campaign ribbon, and its ONE-LIFE-TO-LIVE! If you die, you're out for the rest of the missions.  So far, no one has earned their ribbon yet, and we've no aces yet either.  Tonight's mission is #6. Because of the dramatic impact virtual death can have on the TOD pilots, expect a more realistic and conservative attack by the Luftwaffe.

Gentlemen, the target for today is.......Berlin!

The mission today is a maximum effort, so all leaves are cancelled and all sick-calls are herewith cancelled as well!

So all battle-worn, and not battle-worn BOMBER PILOTS come on over to join this strike against the heart of the Axis homeland!

Please assemble for a briefing in Knightland, and try to be online by 9:00 PM EST for target and formation orders.

PS. I have been having terrible connect problems these last 2 days, so if I get disconnected, I'll need a volunteer to take over.  (I know the Mighty 8th never had this problem, jeez)

Hey, I fly Knight, AND I fly bombers.  You better believe that I will be there if at all possible.

Sounds like fun.

Hang strolls out on the tarmac towards "Mom's Favorite", his parked P51D. The plane captain, observing his approach reaches into the bottom of his roll-away and pulls out a cold can of Rolling Rock; pops the top with his church key and hands it to Hang, with a question in his eye.. "...tonight??"

Hang takes a long pull; looks up at the darkening skies; then down to the tarplin spread on the ground festooned with the belts of ammo to be fed to the guns after they are wiped and inspected. He glances up at the opened engine side cowl, and looks again at the grease streaked plane captain with a question oh his own unspoken. "yah, Hang.. she'll be ready." There is no doubt, only certainty in his voice.

Hang finishes the beer; hands back the empty can. He smiles. "I dunno Skip. Seems something big is brewin in knitland. The rooks are in an uproar; and bish HQ is issuing standby orders and boosting border caps. The LW elements are also settin up for something and when they get up; I get an itch. Word has it the knights will he hosting an all out B17 raid to parts unknown."

Just then; the ground trembles with the sound of Merlins on full WEP; their eyes swing back up to the sky as 4 P51's flash past on their way to the war. As they dwindle in the distance, Hang, smiling now; turns back to the crew dog.

"Thanks Skip. I'll tell em we're ready. If they need us, and yer willin, then we go to knitland tonight for escort duty with the knits B17 group against the LW. If anybody needs me; tell em ta shout me up on common tonight. I'll be around."

Hang turns to head back toward the ops shack; takes a few steps, and turns back. "...and fer crissakes, get ridda that pisswater beer in that overgrown suitcase before the IG spots it."

Hang is ready.
