Looking for new monitor
« on: July 16, 2007, 10:36:11 PM »
I have been checking out the new 19" and 20" lcd monitors. I have been told that I should get a 2ms refresh rate for sure. I'm not sure about what else to look for. Any thoughts about Samsung or Viewsonic products? Any other hints would be greatly appreciated.

You can pretty much discouont refresh rates.  Manufacturer's have found new ways to represent this number which may not have any basis in reality.  It has become a marketing war.

Is your mind set on anything but a CRT ? I just bought this CRT flatscreen from Dell for $ 209.00 and it is so sweet. I always prefer CRT's for gaming .

I would like a LCD because of the limited space I have for the screen. Too deep and I'll have to extend the counter top. :D

I'd reccomend the Acer 22" LCD Monitor , (AL2216Wbd). If you do a search for reviews, you'll find that most are very happy with their Acer. I've had mine for a while now and I love it!

Any monitor with a response time at 5ms or lower should do fine for ya.

Mwave has it here for $224.00 (not including S&H)

NewEgg has it for a little cheaper here for $219.00, (not including S&H)

I wouldn't worry about getting a monitor with built-in speakers. In most cases the built-in speakers aren't that great. I've had a 17" for a long while now and it's been great also. Personally I'm sold on Acer.

Do some research for reviews on this monitor and you'll see for yourself.

That Acer is a good price.  My buddy bought that one a couple months ago.  Only draw backs are the base is kind of cheap and if u bump your desk the LCD does wobble (not even that big of a bump).  Also the contrast ratio is 700:1, which is okay/good, I'd look for 1000:1 IMO.

I have a 20" Viewsonic that I think is a bit better in brightness and color.  No ghosting in either; however, mine has built is speakers which are terrible and I should have order the one w/o the speakers.

I have heard good and bad reviews of Viewsonic. How long have you had yours?

God, is that ever true; just try to get a straight answer on contrast ratios from any company.  Forget it.

Been running a Viewsonic VP201B now for a couple years.  Great monitor.

However, I use a Samsung 204B at work, and it's also great.  Newegg usually has them for about $300.

Have a LG 20.1 WS and like it. The new LCD's are getting close to CRT"s .

steer your self towards Samsung and LG, avoid Westinghouse and any brand you've never heard of.

I have a 17" samsung 731B and I LOVE it.
