Service magic. Stay away
« on: July 18, 2007, 04:15:18 PM »
Stay far far away.

Several months ago I had my leads turned off.
Several months ago being March.

In that time I never turned them back on .

Then suddenly out of the blue and without warning I get 3 leads.

I contact them telling them I didnt want my leads turned back on, I didnt authorise having my leadds turned back on. And didnt want the leads they sent me.

Yet they are still insisting on billing me for these leads I shouldnt have gotten and didnt want.

Now they wont even cancel my account unless I pay for the leads I never wanted.

The Email exchange has been hillarious to say the least.

They insist I owe them $75 for the leads I never wanted.

And Im insisting I dont as I never had nor did I want my leads turned back on.

This "Service" is a joke

Stay away. Stay far far away

Anyway, here is the last echange I had with them.
Evidently they are almost as tired of hearing form me as I am them.

And yes I've tried calling the,
Convieniently. everytime I call nobody of any kind of authority is in who can directly address my problem.
And there isnt anyone in who can cancel my account.

For me its not the money really. If I had legitimately wanted the leads I would gladly pay for them.
Its the principle of the thing.

In the end I may end up paying it just to be rid of them once and for all.
but in the meantime.
They are gonna earn every red cent

Thank you for your Email
I will make a deal with you. Stop trying to collect money that is not rightfully owed to SM and I will stop sending Emails.

you may want to spell regards as regards.  that is of course unless you were guarding something then had to do it all over again.

LMAO not 5 minutes ago my phone rings.
Its SM recording about my bill asking me to call them at te number above.

So for chuckles I do.

"SM is experiencing a high number of calls right now.." yadda yadda yadda

Tyical. Every time I've called them about something they are experienceing a high number of calls.

So their automated system places me on hold....then hangs up.

I call back

Again "SM is experiencing a high number of calls right now.." yadda yadda yadda and places me on hold again.

And then hangs up again.

THIS from a company that stresses to its members the importence of  calling back right away or better yet. being there to answer calls personally.

What a bunch of clowns

Leads are advertisements, I guess?

Reminds me of a great short story about a guy living on the moon who generates his own oxygen, but the Air company keeps charging him for a service he doesn't want or need. The story is all about him getting back at them over and over.

A "lead" is a potential customer

Its an advertising company.

People go there looking to have work done. For the sake of this discussion lets say a roof replaced

They input their name address discription of type of work they want done etc in and SM sends that info (leads) out to up to 4 contractors/businesses in the area. By Email and/or phone/fax

The contractor/business in turn call the person and set up an appointment to give an estimate. etc.

The person (lead) looking to have the work done in turn can choose any or none of the contractors/businesses

It doesnt cost the person looking to have the roof done a penny. It does however cost each business or contractor for each lead they receive regardless of if they end up getting the job or not.

Ideally for every 3 leads you dopnt get the job on you get one that makes the other 3 you didnt get worth it.

Unfortunately. the more people I talk to. it rarely works that way.
Some do well. Most  Dont

Example. in a period of 4 months I spent $900 on leads. And a whole bunch of running around doing estimates.
I actually got jobs worth a total of $1800.
For the $900 profit I got it wasnt really worth it.
By march I had enough work that I didnt need SM
You have the option of turning your leads off if you get too busy.
Which is exactly what I did Figuring in the future it might come in handy even at that ratio if nothing else was commming in. A Half a loaf of bread is better then none and all that sorta thing.

Now Summer is my busiest time of year. I DEFINATELY DONT need the leads then.
But suddenly I get 3 one after another bam bam bam.

Im like WTF?? So I Email and call them about it.

In responce all I got was a generic "You owe us $75 for the leads" Email.
Phonecalls have proven to be fruitless as nobody ever seems to be there that has the authority to actually do anything about it and the people on the phone are just preprogramed robots to just do what they are told in as professional a way as possible.

So the war has begun
And you know me once I sink my teeth into something  LOL

It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.
