VOX issue

Im having a little trouble with voice.. or  well.. maybe I am..

my wingman cannot hear me.. and I cannot hear him..

if I type .radio 5 (my name) I can hear myself just fine.. but when I tune to him, he says he gets nothing..

i know this might be an overly vague question.. and I did search some..

are there any common things that can cause this?

UPDATE: i just tried it with another person

we both tuned to 110  (.radio 5 110) the "radio" screen confirmed we were both in.. nothing, neither can hear the other.

does you see the name come up in the top right corner when they press "T"?

nope, dont see anything.

I installed RogerWilco (uugh) and it works fine.

but still nothing when trying to use VOX.. when somebody tries to talk to me, no name appears in the corner.. nothing..  same is true on their end.

but like I said, I can tune to myself, and test and everything is fine..

im on a router, and have this PC on the DMZ..

I cant figure out WHAT the deal is.

EDIT: oh yea, somebody said that since im the host, and on a router it wont work, that doesent make any sense.

Hmm...That is very strange...this is as far as I go...you would have to turn to the Trainers...they know more...

well, i did some digging and im apparently not the first to have this issue.

apparently you cannot use VOX if you are hosting from behind a router.  you can if you are hooked directly to the modem though.

it has something to do with router's use of NAT.

from what I read the consensus us that its something that CAN be fixed, but for whatever reason the powers that be will not fix... reasons as to why varied.

guess ill just have to use stupid roger wilco

  I am connected through a wireless router....., but this computer is my primary.  Every other computer must connect to the router on this one.

If you are DMZ there should be no issue....I doubt that's it.

I play behind a router (both wired and wireless) with no issues.

apparently the DMZ is a non factor.. I (for a short time) hooked up directly to the modem, and had no issies.. went back through the router, on DMZ with no other port-forwarding programs having any issues.. and VOX would NOT work whatsoever.. again point to the NAT issue.

if it was just me I would go nutts and try and dig deeper, but after more searching.. this issue is very prevelent, solutions for it, are not.

Does your modem do bridging? Not sure if that will help you or not.

searching has turned up several posts in the Tech forum for this exact issue, there is no offiicial support for the problem.  only speculation.

I too have tried putting my PC on the DMZ, and i too have had no luck getting vox to work in hosted rooms.

Try searching the Free 8 player forum too.

Problems with VOX?  One thing that I have noticed and this is in the main online arenas, is that if radio box V has any garbage characters in it, Vox will not work.  How they get there is a unknown to me.  You may think you have 110 in radio V and it may appear that you have 110 in radio V, but actually there are additional characters , non-displayable characters and you are really tuned to channel 110bbbb&% or something like that, but the box window reads 110 and you can keep over typing the 110 or changing it to 183  or what ever , but the garbage non-displayable characters are still in the box.  I stumbled across this and have had it happen to several squad members,  signing out and back in does not fix it.  

To correct the problem of non-displayable characters in a radio box, you must position the cursor in the box, to the left of the first characters and press the delete key about 20 times.  This should clear out that buffer.  Then re-type the 110.  Vox then works.
