Freaky outlook on the forum

I know I've seen a post on this somewhere, but I can't find it.

Here's a look at how I currently see the forum. It seems as though every day I look at the forums on my laptop, different images have swapped themselves around and others have fixed themselves. I don't see this problem if I look at the forums using my desktop machine. Ctrl-F5 and clearing the browser cache don't fix the problem.

What else can I try? I mean, it's nice having a picture of a Corsair instead of a :D, but really...Also notice that somebody's avatar replaced...whatever used to be down there. A couple days ago the Reply button with replaced with the alternate text "Click here to post a reply."

Good question. :rolleyes: Norton expires soon. It's going to be fun trying to get as much of this mandatory piece of crap off and trying to replace it with NOD32...

AVG, from grisoft. Look no further. It's got a free version (the pay version has things like firewall etc that I don't need, the free version has all the AV which I do, so I don't pay for it)

Upon installing AVG on my desktop gaming machine, I had a whole lot of programs cease internet contact, things slowed down, a couple things flat-out broke...it wasn't pretty.

The desktop is relatively safe, me being a tinkerer and sitting there tweaking it, but a Dell laptop loaded down with Dell software isn't something I wanna tackle like that. Any tips for a better removal of Norton? It's NIS 2006.

Nope, I've got little experience in that area, as I usually reformat then install AVG, don't have to deal with uninstalling.

Norton themselves have a free Norton removal tool that removes all vestiges of their a/v garbage. I don't have a link handy but I'm sure a google search will turn it up. I have used it to remove their 2006 version specifically, amongst other versions.

I decided to wipe the drive. I found my WinXP Home CD and am making backups of my files as we speak. Off we go... :D

Yup. Complete wipe of the drive fixed it. Installed NOD32 first thing and all looks well. Although I had to play with WMP video acceleration to get some of my .wmv files to display correctly. :rolleyes:

Antivirus that supposed to be one of the best out there. One of my friends says it isn't, but I haven't bothered to look since it's big debut (when all the tests showed it rocked). A lot of guys on this forum said it was better vs my one geek friend, so I use it. :p

I've only had an A/V catch a virus once, but NOD32 is amazingly compact in its use of system resources. If you set it to not auto-scan all of the folders that contain games on your system, it's the gamer's dream of an A/V as far as I've seen.

Antivirus debates are generally pretty stupid.  Almost like Mac vs PC, but we all know Macs suck :lol

The truth behind a lot of antivirus software is that some programs are better at detecting certains viruses than other and others etc.  There are some serious reviews comparing antivirus software out there.  Out of the mainstream ones Mcafee tests poor, Norton is okay but is a resource hog.  NOD32 and AVG are near the top.

Like yesterday I had a virus through MSN.  Long story short, my antivirus (Avast, its free and I do not recommend it) didn't even detect anything on a system scan.  So I used Trendmicro's online Housecall to remove the virus.  I'm pretty safe with what I do online and yesterdays virus was a bonehead mistake on my part.  Antivirus has never been a major concern for me, but yesterday as an example shows that I really need new software.
