Let's try to keep it above a 3rd grade reading level.

Personally I can't wait to see some more INtelligent writeups...  The Beaufighter is nice but perhaps some more Axis planes would be in order.

Well, heck! scottydawg, you sure know how to kill a thread, don't you?!

Kind of disappointed in the the dearth of submissions myself, but thanks to those of you who participated so far.

Nakajima Ki-43 Hyabusa (Peregrine Falcon)
Allied code name: Oscar

Produced from December 1938 through the end of the war, with over 5,900 examples built.  The most numerous of all IJAAF fighters, it served on every front where the IJAAF fought.

Most common variant was the Ki-43-II, with almost 2,500 made from November 1942 to October 1944.  The guns were a bit light (2 x 12.7 mm Ho-103 machine guns), and at only 530 KPH @ 4KM it was mite slow, but with judicious use of its "butterfly flaps" it could out-dogfight anything, even a Zero.

Plus, itz kewl, d00dz.  ;)
