our escorts for keeping 'em at bay and getting us into target and out. We lost a few but it coulda been a lot worse if we didn't have 'em.

Three scouts in a 109 and two 110s showed up first and drew them off to the rear. They were climbing back into position when the swarm came. We only had to hold 'em off with the guns for a minute or so before the escorts came and drove em off to the rear and down, but it was enough to lose 3 outta the 6 flights. They got 1 flight on the first run through head on. Alot of tracers went flyin that first pass, more so than the film viewer showed on the screens. It was intense to say the least.
