Air support for a base capture flys close to the airfield and lands in field and waits on the GVs to get close. Once the GVs are in position, the air support takes off and attacks with the GVs ... in a coordinated effort.
When I was in the MAW, if we were doing a deep-strike capture, the goon driver(s) would leave way before us and land somewhere outside the radar circle. Once the NOE attack force broke the radar circle, the goons would lift and arrive just as the town was completely destroyed.
