New PC built
« on: August 05, 2007, 12:05:41 AM »
Thanks for all the help I got in my other thread. I got it built and it is running smooth as silk. Infact, every thing from hardware to software went smooth. With max settings (and vsync off) I'm getting 140 FPS in the tower with clipboard up. And in flight it's over 200 at ground level and some times hits 400 above 5k. I've had 4 or 5 applications running at the same time and not the first hic-up. I really appreciate the input and advice :D

When you get FPS *that* high, it's nice to sacrifice a few of them to up the graphics settings on your vid card control panel. Things like 8x FSAA, and on NVidia cards, the "quality" setting makes a BIG difference in some games. Night and day between "Quality" and middle-slider in HL2. Liquids and shader effects really stand out.

I got the Antec P182 and I'm really glad I went with it. Very good construction and every thing went in with ease. I did add an extra case fan in the mid section. So far the CPU runs aound 32C under load according to RMClock.

What are your gents thoughts on turning up the anti- alising in AH, and how high?

I also have a new pretty high end system and hesitate to turn up the a/a. My fear is that I may not see dots in the distance as well, since a/a essentially smooths out jagged edges in pixels, and a distant pre-icon bogey is essentially a pixel.

Right now I have it on application controlled, and have AH maxed in detail & at the highest res possible, and it looks great.  Would it get better at the cost of my 'virtual' 20/20 eyesight?

At work now, not on flying rig to experiment :)

Think I use 16x AA,

However  the difference between 4x and 16x is barely noticeable.

The difference between none and 4x is huge!

I like scanning for cons but now you mention it, I bet me having my new system with everything cranked had more to do with the fade in cons rather than the latest patch.

I do not have any fading problems and my AA is at 8x

475FG Savlan, your thoughts seem incorrect to me.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

I have the same problems seeing dots with or without FSAA. I've tested it (trying to figure out why I can't see them as soon as others can). FSAA doesn't seem to affect it much.

2x FSAA is an improvement over none. 4x is even better! 8x is swweeeeeet!

If you got the horsepower, don't hesitate to use FSAA!
