« on: August 06, 2007, 09:56:13 AM »
Been watching my recordings of the new season of dogfights :)
During the episode "Gun Kills over Vietnam" I was playing some old stones on the pc...kinda puts things in perspective especially listening to the pilots actual transmissions

The Thunderbolt episode was pretty good too.

Too bad the online game blows. The series is greatness.

Just came across this series last night in HBO On Demand History Channel.  Thunderbolt was addictive.  Now will have to watch the other episodes.

You think "Thunderbolt" was addictive, watch "Long Odds" from last season.

Yeah 88, I was thinking "Hmm, this might put Hitech outa bizness". Let me just say, HTC has NOTHING to worry about. I can't understand how they can make the series look so good and the game teabag old homeless guys.

Love the show. I'm not sure I'm going to attempt to outclimb Bf-109s by doing a spirling right hand climb in a P-47 though. ;)

You might wanna get a program called EasyCleaner. It's a simple program from a while ago that allows you to delete startup entries from the registry and start menu. It'll force the game to not start, unless it re-adds itself every time it starts.

To bad they don't have better researchers for the episodes.

For example, there was no Col Tomb in the NVAF.

I think that is a relatively minor error as such things go. By and large, I find the series to be far more accurate than about anything similar you see on the history channel or discovery. Very little of the common false mythology along the lines of hub mounted mk103s on Me109s, etc. Tactics, maneuvers and general performance parameters are largely accurate as far as I've seen.

Now, not as accurate as some of the history minutia crowd might appreciate (which I can fall into in some areas myself) but more than "good enough for government work" and accessible to a general audience. In fact, perhaps pushing the boundaries of a general audience.

Makes a good war story though.  Most likely though it was just an experienced MiG 17 pilot that was either the flight leader or squadron commander of the 923rd Regiment.
