This is pretty cool:

http://www.ocweekly.com/news/news/theyre-here-theyre-queer-theyre-armed/21266/

It's a group that advocates expanding gun ownership to what's typically been a more liberal strata of the country, gays and lesbians.  Big benefits:

* It introduces safe gun ownership to more people
* Has the potential to reduce crime (gay bashing, etc)
* Makes the streets safer

I know this is probably a bit out of left field for some of you, some of the conversations I've read here have led me to believe that there are quite a few folks here who wouldn't mind if all the gays just died out overnight, but I think this is a Good Thing.  The 2nd Amendment withers when support disappears, and is stronger when more people exercise it.

It's certainly a possible source of spirited discussion here, though, so I thought I'd share the above link.

Oleg Volk, one of the owners of The High Road firearm ownership and rights site is a graphic designer in advertising and has produced some great pieces for the Pink Pistols:

here are some more from Oleg with different pro 2nd messages -- Oleg does some cool stuff:

There are actually more than a few gay gun owners, who are quite out and accepted at sites like THR and The Firing Line. More power to them, and to us straight gun owners, as it helps break the common media/elitist/activist stereotypes of the typical gun owner. I think it also helps modify the views of some of the gunowners that actually live up to that "bubba" stereotype as to others with common ground.

Hell, there are more than a few liberal and socialist gunowners that are regulars on both boards. The Democrat vs Republican deal can get interesting in those threads. Then, although the image of the urban Jewish liberal anti is quite strong (and true to a point) there are more than a few Jews with a strong pro firearm viewpoint and the Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership group is one of the more radical groups that gives the GOA a run for its money.

Here's an Oleg take on that subject:

It takes all types :)

Wasn't there a gay group in San Francisco that wanted to outlaw the Golden gate bridge because more people commit suicide on it then die by guns in SF, in response to the BS hand gun bad the board of stupidvisors passed?

Guns are just tools, tools for anyone who wishes to own one, the gun doesn't mind if you are gay.

It is really sad the democrats spend so much time trying to rob us of our right to own this tool and use crime as the excuse.

Logic is not their friend if it was they would realize criminals are criminals because they ignore laws, gun laws included, and passing laws to prevent people who ignore them from breaking laws is just silly.

I believe that the more people who get out and buy and learn about firearms the better it is for the cause of keeping our second amendment rights.

Women are the fastest growing group of gun owners... probly because more are single now than any other time and they realize that the police and government are worthless at protecting them..

Gays seem a likely group for gun ownership.   They are in danger from people who will try to kill or injure them out of sheer meanness.   They are targets for bullies and psychotics.    They lead a risky lifestyle and a dangerous social life that includes a lot of night life in dangerous areas.

I don't think a lot of em would like not being able to go to bars anymore tho.
