Squad Communications
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:40:06 AM »
I know we all do our best to keep in com stat with all the squad leaders. Either I missed the part where it went over txt/vox stating the CV was dead.

Last conformation I recieved was CV still up, so I sent all my guys in to drop it. As we approached we noticed that the CV was dead. Well By this time we could not pull out and run, Not only were we taking hits from the ack we also got jumped by alot of F4F'S, I'm not sure where our fighter cover went or if they made it in. We had no other option but to die.

Fellas Can we all try to stay in communication a bit better so that This kind of thing does not happen again. All and All this was the quickest FSO I have ever takin part in.:aok :D

8903 / AT9Bucks

I believe you hit the destroyer fleet (C22) and not the CV fleet (C8) which was 2 sectors south of C22.  The Mongrels were flying CAP over C22 and it looks like we were able to get 22 B5Ns.  The torp bombers did manage to get the Cruiser in that task force, but C8 didn't see any action in the time the Mongrels were over it.

There were two fleets for each side in operation.  One fleet had the CV pre-destroyed to be 4 DDs and a Cruiser in it.  The other fleet was a normal CV task force.

PS:  There was another squad defending with us.  The 327th.  Didn't mean to exclude them from getting the credit they also deserved.

This was a tricky frame for the axis. The 2 groups of Allied ships were only about 1.5 sectors apart. Which lead to a lot of confusion on which group was which. My squad also got them crossed up. This also meant that the Allies had a large amount of defense forces in about a one sector area. Also with the 2 Allied ship groups being in line north to south, it meant that some squads ( like mine) had to fly through the defenses of the first group to get to their target, that was further south.

A difficult situation for the Axis considering the speed of the Axis planes. The confusion in this frame is not a surprise.

Also I know some Axis squads (like mine) did not get a map to look at, only text.

But it was a fun event, and we had a good time. :aok

You know, In some ways I like this kind of thing to happen in FSO from time to time. It gives me pause to think just how difficult combat was for our Grandfathers. In most cases they had far less information then we do, and they were facing death.

Granfathers, If I can be half the man you were, I'll be happy.

Sled,
as part of the (332) mongrels, a big salute to you and the rest of the Axis attacking team! Believe me, myself and I believe a majority of the defenders of the TF's were looking for high Vals or other bombers and were surprised when you guys came in low - it was fortunate that we were co-ordinated enough with sentries posted hi & lo at the cardinal points and were able to rally enough resources to fend off the worst of the onslaught. A big Salute to daddog (mongrel CO) for preparing us well!

A battle well fought <>

Regards,
Optiker

We thought we had the right TG but the CV had already been sunk. We had no option but to release our Torps and head for home. We found out after it was the wrong TG, but even if it had been the right one, it would of been sunk. We were turning to head for home when we were attacked, everyone had aleady dropped the Torps. All 21 of us were shot down, but after we had dropped ord and started for home.

JG11 was flying escort.  We engaged the first flight of 6 f4fs  just before you called for help.

You guys should of known that you were flying through the defensive cap of the CA task force.  All squad leaders got the map from Nef.

Also by choosing the white skin, you were visible from 25k even though NOE.

I do agree that the placement of the TF's was a bit harder on the axis, but it was fun to see a new setup.

The Mongrels target CAP alt was above 20k.  When the Cruiser Fleet started blinking, I personally took my wingman down to 10k and started scanning for the low bombers.  When I did get the call on location, I was down to maybe 8k, but by then I'd seen the white dots.

It was a good fight.  And yes most of the fish were in the water by the time the CAP got down to tear up the retreating bombers.  However, with 21 fish in the water I was surprised that only the cruiser went down.  I thought at least one of the destroyers should have been down.  I know that it's tough torp dropping in any event.   those guys who did.

Well all in all it was very difficult and as always we had a blast. I could only imagine how bad our fighter cover got hit, seeing how we got slammed. We still got frame 3 to whoop on the Allies, to even  it up. Good job to all the squads on both sides. Well played =S=:aok :D

I agree, but for some of us who are getting older WWII was our Fathers & Mothers, my Grandfather was in WWI.

Not from what I see, Dace had issues with the E-mail untillity, and some of the squads never got a map. All my CO got was the text of the orders.

Why whould a squad fly through a defence group to get to a more distant target? Answer? they wouldn't, unless they did not know that it was going to be there.
