Battleships: more iron to go down to the bottom...
« on: August 15, 2007, 01:21:46 PM »
Hi chaps,

I believe it would be interesting to allow a totally player controllable battleship to roam about and around the oceans...Not much more than a CV killer on the prowl, maybe a good target for lone dive bombers...

It would be interesting to chase fleets with these surface mamouths and we have everything we need to have them:

Take a cruiser and upgrade it. Maybe an Iowa class BB:

Range: 9,600 miles (15,000 km) @ 25 knots (46 km/h);
16,600 miles (27,000 km) @ 15 knots (28 km/h)

Speed: 33 knots (61.12 km/h nominal);35 knots (64.82 km/h maximum)

Armament: 9 × 16 in (406 mm) 50 cal. Mark 7 guns
20 × 5 in (127 mm) 38 cal. Mark 12 guns
80 × 40 mm 56 cal. anti-aircraft guns
49 × 20 mm 70 cal. anti-aircraft guns

Armour: Belt: 12.1 in (307 mm)
Bulkheads: 11.3 in (287 mm)
Barbettes: 11.6 to 17.3 in (295 to 439 mm)
Turrets: 19.7 in (500 mm)
Decks: 7.5 in (191 mm)

Aircraft complement: 3 × Vought OS2U Kingfisher/Curtiss SC Seahawk;

Wouldn't it be beautiful?

Cheers,

Hi Bosco,

Bringing the Italian Reggia Aeronautica or the Italian fleet back would be even less smarter...

Remember Taranto?:rofl

Just kidding! I'm all for having all countries aircraft, tank, artillery and ships represented, from the Spanish Civil War until 1945.

Italians, Soviets and French models would be very wellcome, as some key German, British and American models, waiting for so long to make their appearance ...

But it will take only 2 weeks and, yes, bring the Brewster and the Judy!

We had a BB once, not sure what became of it.  Cruisers are a lot of fun though.

We never had a BB.

A Yamato class would be fun, give the Japanese a BB task group.  Yes, Iowa is better, but Yamato is imptressive too.

no your wrong sparrow we have a whole fleet of aircraft and ships that can shoot down any aricraft if your good enough. We have only 2 just 2 italian aircraft. I know that the G-55 would be a great asset to this game because it could match the pony dweebs on speed and out hang with the spitsixteen like I am. we need more air tropper type aircraft, thats were the Siai Marchetti SM.81 would come in, it could drop more troops and has a has as many guns as a B-17 so we could save some troops and my favorite Italian airplane of all, or the most beautiful airplane of allthe Reggiane RE.2005 was just behind the G-55.

so you see we do need the Italian airforce [/I]

Kenny,

Have you already reached letter "c"? Look for "constructive criticism".

"Argumentative speech" is a tad more demanding but I believe in your abilities.

Thank you for reading.

Cheers,

P.S.: Yes, I ROTFLOL too, when I read it.
